Nice choice good sir Are you going to get a suppressor for it down the road? Hopefully you won't have any problem with the adjustable sights snagging on clothing if you have to draw it.

I plan to try and get a suppressor, yes. The state where I live allows them. I spoke with the county Sheriff and he seemed nice enough, but I don't know if he will sign off. He said that he does not recall a suppressor, and thinks there is like 1 short barreled rifle registered in the county. This may just be because nobody around here wants to jump through the paperwork hoops rather than his willingness to sign off. I'm not too keen on the "trust" idea/method for obtaining a suppressor. My previous background, clearance and a simple background check should validate me, not to mention the honesty factor in asking him directly. The state where I want to move also allows suppressors.
The suppressor I want is the Advanced Armament "Black Box", which seems to have a disappeared/delayed release. It is supposed to be able to lower the .45 dB level below the KAC suppressor, which makes it hearing safe and is impressive. Before I put funds towards it, I need an announcement that it is legitimately going to be made available, and I need to get an idea of what disassembly/cleaning will be like [since it is shaped different than a standard can].

For now though, I have a thread protector and a "Vortex" muzzle brake from Auto Burst.

how much length would the suppressor add? wouldnt that make it harder to draw from concealed?

Yes much harder...almost doubles the length of the gun. Most likely use it on the weekends for fun.

I wouldn't carry a suppressor - it would unreasonably incite enough fear and BS if someone happened to accidentally see your concealed firearm [I imagine it happens]. If they saw a "silencer" I think they would call the cops and have the place surrounded. There is also no need for concealed carry of a suppressor. While there should be no reason for you NOT to be able to do it, let's be reasonable - it would be hard as hell to conceal and if there is a need for drawing your weapon, there is no need for it to be quieter, or a secret; most often, just the opposite.
That would be for the weekend fun-time, and of course would be part of an "oh shit" kit.

Yea that pistol is big enough already...I have enough problems with a G23 haha.

Buddy of mine who is a State Trooper was carrying one time at a car show and bent over, you could clearly see the full outline of a G27(SC) in his shirt. I was like 'oh snap'. So I told him before anyone called the cops.

I have a question over bullet grain.
I see a variety of grains and I wonder, what is best for a 45ACP and 9MM Luger?
It seems that the heavier the projectile, the slower it travels. 185 and 230 seem to be the most common grains for the 45. I have seen much lighter bullets out there as well. Is there any benefit to a smaller grain bullet, such as reduced recoil or increased accuracy [so long as you have the right spring to make sure your pistol cycles properly]? Will +p or non also make a difference?

It is big, it is slow, it has relatively low recoil, it doesn't over penetrate and it delivers a massive energy transfer to the target - everything you want in a self defense round.

Both the +p and the 185gr are over 1,000 FPS. It's a self defense round. 99% of all self defense engagements take place in distances of under 25 feet. You don't need 1,000+ ft/sec velocities for those distances IMO. With a non +p load, a 230 grain is transferring 400+/- ft/lbs at those ranges. It's more than enough.

+P are simply "hotter loads" - with the energy transfer of a 230 grain .45, you really don't need anything "hotter".

I've been wanting something for home defense (you can see the interstate from my house, it's in a nice neighborhood, I've got a basement window just BEGGING to get broken in to...) and I'm figuring when times go to shit, this neighborhood is going to be targeted.

I don't want a handgun (it took me a clip to hit a 2L bottle from like 10'). What's a nice semi-auto shotgun?

Nice one would be a remington 870 express or the 870 marine magnum and cheap would be mossberg 500

Just get the Mossberg Persuader...I have two...one is 20 something years old and I have had NO hang ups with it. But that is a pump. Semi-auto PD guns are overpriced and not really worth it. Plus the added sound of racking the slide on a pump is enough to persuade most intruders.

As far as grains...It all depends on barrel length, twist and all that. Your gun has to be able to stabilize the bullet. Usually people use a 115gr in a 9mm, 180 in a .40, and 230 in a .45 ACP. That is just a general statement though.

Winchester 1300 Defender here (extended mag) with a wood stock...in today's legal environment, it doesn't look like an "evil" weapon designed to take someone out. A Remington 870 Tactical or Police would be 2nd choice.

I personally keep my Defender loaded with #4 buck...most shotgun engagements are under 25'. This load will do a number on someone at that range and I don't risk a pellet going through a wall and hitting one of my family.
