Outofstep - The Glock safety is rumor from what I understand. The new Glock 21SF has an ambi mag catch, but no external safety. The do make manual safety devices for certain LEO's in other countries, but they've never marketed one here and I have yet to hear anything saying they're definitely going to in the US. I'm like you, no flip-flap safeties on my damn carry guns! My finger is my safety!

AyeMate - Guns of that era weren't blued - they had a finish called 'Armory Bright'. It basically was brushed metal. Over the years the guns pick up a petina that makes them look blued. With the condition of that gun, I'd say either bluing it to replicate the petina or cleaning it up to look like the armory bright would both be about as bad as the other. If you want it to remain historical and maybe keep some value, don't mess with it other than clean it up. If you want to go and shoot it, do whatever - it looks like it's solid mechanically.

Oh, got one of the two uppers for my AR:
CMMG 14.5 Middy barrel with a permanently attached Phantom mated to an M16 slab sid upper. Still waiting on my 10.5" Noveske barrel for the SBR upper

Negatory. I've already seen pictures of the Glock G19 with ambi release and safety. Glock reps have also already confirmed the new safety frames. Check Glocktalk.com for the whole poop on that.

The 21SF came out before (even though its just now being released) the safety frames.

I have no problems carrying the 1911 series even though they are safetied, but then again I practice having the safety off before the gun is completely out of it's holster.

hey, i'm thinking of the things i'm going to need to support my AR, today i'm getting a cleaning kit and a cable lock, but i'll also need a case. anyone have any opinions/suggestions for cases that would fit? i just want a soft sided one, preferably with mag pockets and a pocket for the cleaning kit, and price around or less than $100. Or could someone give me the dementions i should look for? with a mid lenth barrel the overall lenth is like 35in right? but how wide should the case be?

and its getting to the time to get my upper, i've picked out everyting(16in barrel, mid lenth, carry handle, NATO chamber) but i just dont know if a chrome lined barrel is worth it. the gun will be shot like once a month maybe so i thought just a steel barrel would be fine, but then i thought over long storage times maybe the chrome would be better for resisting rust? thoughts?

my 14.5" barrel puts my rifle at about 34 1/4" with the stock extended. With a 16" barrell, you'll be looking for the 36" range with the stock open, and 32-33" closed.

you looking for a case similar to this?

My friend puts his ar15 carbines in the shoulder bags for folding lawn chairs. They don't provide much protection, but they're very discreet. I laughed my ass off the first time I saw it.

i finally have something to show off. i went home this weekend for my dads b-day, and also managed to get this put together. was not hard at all, except for when i wasnt paying attention and tryed to put the rear takedown pin in the front takedown pin hole. doh! but it came out easy. next paycheck i'll be ordering my upper, my friend got a good price from a guy on AR-15.com so i think i'll look into that.

would like a RRA upper. the lower is a double star, and all the guts and stock are RRA. i feel that the less i mix and match manufacturers the less chance of haveing any problems with fitment and such.

so yeah gotta see what my options are but i would like a RRA 16inch midlenth with a carry handle.

In the EE at AR15.com one of the vendors has awesome prices on complete RRA uppers. ~400 bucks. Helluva deal.

Home gun range...

Range fees and ammo are killing me, so I've been thinking about building a bullet trap for my basement (7+ yard range). I'm concerned about noise, odor and lead with a .22 pistol, so I've been thinking about buying a good air pistol.

Does anybody have any experience with a GOOD air pistol? I will buy a 1911 at some point in .45 acp, so I've been thinking about a Colt 1911-A1 for ~$235 with compensator. It's about as much as I want to spend, but I want something realistic in terms of feel and accuracy. Is this a good choice, or am I just better off spending the extra money to shoot a real gun at the range?

Super Colibris or regular Colibris for 22 ammo. You can shoot them outside if you want, they are so quite. Well, actualy thats out of a long gun. Out of a pistol they are louder. I shoot them out of my AR15 (w/m261 kit) all the time and noone knows. Very quite.

CCI CB Caps are also supposed to be pretty quite as well. I haven't tried them though. Basicly anything subsonic in 22 is gonna be faily quite. The colibris are almost silent.
