If i were you i would machine the thin piece of material out of the valve relief in the piston. It causes hot spots on the piston and starts to flake off or fold in. Happend to several people on the forums and the probes in my motor. In the original probe piston thread doward adviced people that would be pushing 500+ to machine it out. Dont want to see another good build fail because of it

I plan to run e85 in my new build but im still going to shave the sides. There just to thin and i wouldnt risk it again. You work at a machine shop so i dont know why you wouldnt lol.How much cooler are the cylinder temps with e85? If i do it myself at work i plan to just rotary out the edge then smooth it out with a sanding barrel and emory cloth

I don't work at a machine shop but work at a shop, I did do a internship at a machine shop here in vegas for a few weeks though.

E85 is so awesome I don't know where to start. I was originally running NA-T and on a stock turbo with 91 octane I would detonate hard core at 12 psi. I ended up bumping the compression from 9.2:1 to 9.8:1 on the CT26 57 trim I ran 20 psi with e85, advanced timing and still never had any detonation! It really is great!

Yea e85 is great stuff. Ive always wanted to know the cylinder temperature differance between e85 and gas. I know e85 for sure burns cooler. The edges of probe pistons are just way thin in my opinion. After seeing 3 of mine do that im going to machine the edges this time.

I thought you worked at a machine shop/performance shop lol

Got the block all done at the machine shop today. Checked over the block surface and its still perfect from the last time we decked it 500 miles ago. Did a stepped plateau finish, with a 30 degree crosshatch on the cylinder walls that came out super nice, Ended up going with a .0045" piston to wall clearance. Going to do extra cleaning tomorrow to get it prepped for checking clearances and assembly.

Ordered the bearings, Valve springs, Head gasket, Turbo oil flanges and pretty much everything else for assembly.

Turbo and CNC adaptor should be here by the end of the week along with everything else. Got to order a few odds and ends as all the intercooler piping will be all remade along with the downpipe. Will start working on cutting out the valve relief wall on the pistons tomorrow and get them all prepped for assembly on the rods, Gap the rings and then have to wait for bearings to show up.

Late night at the shop working on two motor's and pulled a head off a customers supra.

Did some testing on my new valve springs. At the installed height they have 70lbs on the seat and 140lbs open at the lift of the cam. Definitely won't have valve float with these and plenty of room before they go into coil bind.

Waiting on bearings and other parts to show up... I hate waiting!

I am not familiar with the Megasquirt. It can control the transmission too, how do you intend in controlling that?

I was talking to Ian and he said all that would be needed if using the AEM, would be to have it send the TPS signal to the stock auto computer and that's it.

We just did a AEM pnp in that blue supra in the pic above.. It doesn't need anything but to wire in the torque converter lock up solenoid.

With megasquirt I would use a micro squirt stand alone to control the trans
