Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, slow!
I <3 powdercoating too!
Subframes will be gloss black, and the rear A1 racing arms will be PC'd red.

errrr why?

Not to clutter up the thread, btu im an advocate for lightweight rotating assemblies. Granted the 6m crank is *only* ~5lbs lighter than the 7m crank, but soem people kill for 5lbs off their rotating mass (keep in mind ive been a chevy guy before i got into toyotas, ive felt soem heavy cranks lol) Not to mention its not my first priority for a "smooth" engine, as i believe the weight savings will benefit me more than the smoothness at least in my application. I of course wont say that the 6m crank is better for everyone, but i think its in my best interest to use it. Maybe im just stubborn :biggrinbo

Well, how much would be removed from a 7m crank when it gets knife edged you think?
Because that's the route I want to take.

It would depend on how crazy they get with the edging....doubt it woudl make up the difference between the 2 cranks, but thats ok. Every little bit helps IMO. Like i said, im sure most would be better off with the 7m, i just liek to be different i suppose :)

I come from a land down under
Due to a mistake at the machine shop I ended up with 2 cranks prepped identically so I asked the guys there in all honesty which they would use given the choice and they all said the 7M for it's increased longevity confirming my thoughts on the subject!

This shop specialises in Custom Cranks so I trust their judgement.

I agree with them :)

I however am not interested in longevity, just max power/revs etc. as it is not much of a street car anymore. If i get around to it, i may even lighten up the 6m crank :D

Sorry to clutter up the thread again :) I always like hearing others opinions on subjects like this though.

Bryan: One of the machinsts was telling me he could easily drop 5>10 lbs from the 7M crank! (I sort of figured your motor wasn't going to be for long distance sustained effort ;) )

Ian, how much can he drop off the 6m crank?? ;) Im sure at least a couple :)

If i was looking for any long term reliability i woudl have a 7m crank for sure. I guess my mindset right now is that every little bit helps! :)

And now back to our reularly scheduled thread.... Powdercoating pics, stat!! :D

HAHA guys, no clutter as long as it's 7M/MA70 speak!
Some good info in the last few posts, anyway...

Powdercoating will follow suit to the seam welding, that has yet to be done...
::ahem:: 91supraturbo(Andrew) ::ahem::

Oh, there will be pics btw...

LOL I can't weld... The guy that's gonna weld it for me is dragging his ass and I hope he reads this...

Powdercoated pics as soon as I get them, though!
Hopefully within a week or two from now...

::reaches for scissors::

as for fatty's spare subframe: fantastic!
I must say, with this, powdercoated gloss black, the A1 Racing adjustable rear toe control rods and my suprasport trac arms powdercoated red, and all new Toyota bolts and nuts... yep. Can't wait!

Also, is it feasable to have the diff powdercoated? It'd have to be disassembled and just send them the case, right? Which wouldn't be a problem since I want to rebuild it anyhow...

But must it be disassembled?
The powdercoater near me is the only one in the area, and is extremely good at it and told me beforehand that he will mask off all threads, bolt holes, and even the face of a part where the bolt head will butt against the part.

So, I have total and complete faith in his abilities!

I'm going to use the Ian update method henceforth. haha

Hmm. Perhaps I'll bring it up with my PowderCoater and see how he feels about it staying together. Otherwise, I'll give it to a guy at work who loves that kind of shit and tell him to take it apart and remember how it all goes together, then have it PC'd and put it back together afterwards.
