Supra in Clunker lot

So I'm not sure if you have noticed but when you drive by a new car dealership there are lots next to them filled with "clunkers." This is fine...whatever needs to happen to help the economy. Well I was a little early for work this morning and I decided to stop into the Nissan dealership down the street from my job. This is a street where there are dealerships after dealerships. I actually missed the turn and was turning around on a side street. The side street that I was on is between two dealerships. (a chevy body shop). I looked to my left and my heart fell. The dealerships "clunker lot" was right there and in it I found a beautiful red 89 Supra targa. Idk if I'm allowed to do what I did next but I parked my car and went into the lot. It was fenced off, but one side just had poles, no fence. When I got to it I about fell over. What could they have traded this car in for? (I mean if it was a Nissan it woudln't have been so bad, but it was in the Chevy lot, which prlly means they traded it in for an Aveo or something :3d_frown Anyway, besides the interior being a bit dirty, the car was a mint. The armrest, shift knob and boot were all perfect! <<How often do you see this?? What makes me sadder is the fact that they left the window down....The car is going to end up in a junk yard I just know it. Which pisses me off because I had some guy tell me the other day "nobody wants those cars anymore":icon_evil

I work a a new car dealer it is very sad to see some of the cars that we have to send off to the junk yard. There hasn't been any supras but they have ben some very nice cars that had plenty of life left and would have made some body a good car.

Very true, but it looks to be a N/A. Witch if the owner wanted to "sell it" Im guessing he wouldn't even be able to get 3K for it or even $2K. And since they probably got $4,500 for it you do the math and see who got the better deal.

Im not saying I like seeing it get crushed since there is also probably some really good parts on it but money talks. Same reason Im parting the 91 T I pick up.

are they really going to the junk yard?
it makes me very sad because its the older cars with the character...you know what I mean? These new cars are all for competition who can do what better. There is no quality to anything either I'd say anything post 2000ish....is when we started producing...........SHIT!

seem's like everybody has mixed feeling's on this.getting $4500 for that 89+ N/A is alot better then he would do selling it.most people on the forum's would have told the owner it's worth $1000-1500.not to mention that's $4500 they don't pay sale's taxes on also.

This is it unfortunately.

It might be a stupid short sighted government scheme, but you can't exactly blame the owners for taking advantage of it when it's true value isn't anywhere near what the scheme offered. To him it was probably just some old car, why care what happens to it?...

What pisses me off is that they are basically paying people to get in debt, because 90% of the people who cash in their cars, couldn't afford a new vehicle in the first place. Watch it, 2010 will be a LOT of repos and defaulting car loans.

There was at least 1 person on SF who admitted to trading in their mk3 under the clunker program. It was an NA, so hopefully its just that 1 car...

I'm some what sad to say i have taken part in this first hand. At the dealership i work at i was put in charged of the CARS project. What we have to do is drain the oil out of motor and then take the car outside and and poor in 2 quarts of Liquid glass and start the car and let it run at 2k rpms untill the motor quits. the motor doesn't do anything like blow up or start knocking it just quits, the liquid glass seems to clean the motor of what oil is left and cause it to burn out all the seals and bearings to give out and locks up the motor. then we call a approved junk yard to come and get it. they are allowed to remove very select parts and no more then 50.00 of value.

As i said in the MKIII qualifies for the clunker program thread:

They take your money via taxes, then if you participate, they give you your money back, if you dont they give your money to someone else. Nothing good can come of this. It's socialist, stupid and should be illegal IMO. Not to mention its going to drive down the value of scrap metal.

Plus its not really stimulating car sales just shifting them. Think about it. Most people that are participating in the program were already in the market for a new car within the next year. This program sweetened the pot to make them all act now. So when the program is over and everyone that wanted to buy a car has bought it, whos going to buy new cars then? Nobody! Well managed dealerships will make cuts and budget money to survive the drought. They will have to lay off alot of their staff. Poorly managed dealerships will take their revenue and buy all new cars to increase their stock anticipating more sales. This will initially increase automotive production, but once everyone realizes noone is buying cars production will come to a screeching hault, jobs will be lost and many dealerships will go under, especially dealerships that do not have a large service clientel. Go a little further down the road and people will start defaulting on cars they bought during the program, because they made the decision based on the program, not their financial situation. This will result in a climb in reposessions, dumping these cars back onto the market at much lower prices because the finance company has to get rid of them fast. This will only hurt new cars sales more!
