Obama can lick my balls because of this.

This stupid ass program will turn from Cash for Clunkers into Debt for Dumbasses.

Way to drive our country deeper into the shit hole Obama!

We have this in the UK aswell and I don't really like it. You should get it if your car is actually a bit of a shed and the model you drive isn't "rare."

My friend's dad traded my friend's piece of crap in recently and got £4000 off the new car he bought. My friend's car was awful though, brakes were gone, gearbox was going, clutch on it's way out and loads of bodywork was messed up. His dad cashed in on saving money because he was planning to buy the car cash anyway, that's one example where it's ok I suppose, trade in a piece of crap and buy the new car outright. My friend now has a safe car (his dad's old compact thingy) to drive around in and hopefully he'll learn to drive and do some work on a car this time.

The scheme shouldn't apply if you want to get finance over a certain amount either.

The Gov't would be smart to allow dealers to sell on a car that can pass a safety inspection and is actually in good enough condition to stay on the road so stuff like Supras can be saved.

Are they forced to destroy the car in the UK, or can they resell it, reuse parts, etc.?

There's a red 89' turbo targa top for cash for clunkers at the honda dealership I used to work at. It's so depressing. It even has the tt 5 spoke wheels on it. :(

What we have to do is drain the oil out of motor and then take the car outside and and poor in 2 quarts of Liquid glass and start the car and let it run at 2k rpms untill the motor quits. the motor doesn't do anything like blow up or start knocking it just quits, the liquid glass seems to clean the motor of what oil is left and cause it to burn out all the seals and bearings to give out and locks up the motor. then we call a approved junk yard to come and get it.

This post just broke my heart.

I come from a land down under
Net effect is Mk3's now have a 4k base price and give it a few years it will rise as they become rare.

The days of kids buying them for $800 are numbered, these low prices were a joke anyway for a car that was so expensive new.

....glad a few more people "get it."

I also think- scratch that, know that this is going to happen. A lot of people don't realize it though, everyone could've just not given in, but I can see how those who werent smart enough to see whats going on also thought that they were gonna get money in their pocket. They should've just fixed the car, with parts from the junkyard.

Hey there is one bright side. Your supra just got rarer! No, but really that sucks about the supra it just goes to show there aren't many hardcore car enthusiasts anymore. I wouldn't do that to my car for 20,000 grand. Sounds crazy? Well it shouldn't if your a hardcore supra enthusiast. Screw anyone who does that to a supra.

Anyone trading in a supra didn't deserve to own it. The supra didn't deserve to die either though.

Cheap Bastards have devalued the Mk3 to the point they more than qualify for this idiotic program I don't understand why you all seem so surprised when people take advantage of the Govt sponsored incentive to kick start their personal bankruptcy.....

I hate how no1 (govt, insurance, kbb) thinks mkiiis are worth shit.

I haven't had any luck finding supras at the wrecking yard for this past month ....I wonder why? :)

And it was already hard to find any

Up here there was local yard that had 3 of them (86.5 - Marron, 87 or 88 - Blue, and a 90+ - Red) then a 85 mkII that was T-boned. All the MKIII were in pretty nice shape tell we went back to grab a couple more parts. ALL 3 were in the crusher pile!!!! Also the red 90+ one had a shadow gray interior. And they left the POS 85 MK2 alone just sitting there :nono: that one needs to go to the crusher, it was stripped.

Here are a couple pics I snapped quick. The Blue one was really buried and couldn't get a pic that you could see it in.

They go straight to the crushers which annoys me, I'm a big VW fan aswell as liking the Mk3 Supra (I miss my blue one, need to get money fast so I can get it back... ANYWAY).

There's stories of pretty clean and usable VWs (old ones) going to the crushers because of the "scrappage scheme" that we have here. There's also been some pretty rare and elusive old cars that have fallen to it aswell.

I think an independent party that knows a bit about cars, specifically what should be saved and returned to the road or is a bit rare (me for example, seeing as I'm out of a job the government can do a good thing) should decide that if a car has a certain rarity value or is simply a perfectly good car that some poor person (think single mum that really needs a cheap car that works) can make good use of then a dealer can sell it again for a small amount of money.

I look after someone's car and it failed inspection today, she can't really buy another car and it would almost be a good idea she could trade in her banger for a car that was traded in on scrappage that is still a good car and can still pass it's yearly inspection.

I don't like the scheme, luckily it's running out of steam here and might be stopped soon.

Despite the scheme not making any sense to me on any level that the government try to justify it on, I can understand why end users take advantage of it. It's a quick painless way to get £2,000. Granted they'll only be able to put it towards a soulless korean turd, but to the people who take advantage of this scheme, a car is a car, and a Kia Cee'd with 7 years warranty is a better prospect than the MK2 Mondeo they've been pottering about in that passed it's last MOT by the skin of it's teeth.

Granted, you'll hear the odd story of a 1 owner 30,000 miles garaged '64 Mini Cooper S being traded in under the scheme, but by far the most cars being swapped in are right shitters that by rights should be off of the road in the first place.

I would like to know where it has/is gone, there are not many scrap yards that could handle a large lot of cars to scrap. I'm hinting up the junk yards some time this week, I would love to see it in one. but probably not

I know what you mean Don, if you look on UKMkiii Supra though you'll notice one of the cars for sale there could end up a victim of the scheme. That's a damn shame.

I can see why trading in an old Mondeo for 3 grand that it will never be worth and getting a car with a 7 year warranty that's probably reliable is good for some people, in fact I'm for it. Certain cars should not be allowed to be traded in because of what they are though and an independent party (me for example, yes, the government should create this job just for me) should decide what can't be traded (clean Supras, old school hot hatches from an era when they were actually good, air cooled VWs, old minis, RS500s etc,) and even if they are can be sold on due to their "classic appeal/value" at a knock down price which I think is good for everyone.

It won't happen simply because they want to crush the cars because they harm the planet (even though GREENPEACE agree with us, it takes more pollution to make a new car than to keep my old banger on the road) and so forth. I hate this whole "save the earth" business. What about my petrol engine, it has feelings and needs to be saved. They can pry my old car from my cold dead hands.

Found at you pull and pay today! same car, same plate.

When I got there the tails where gone, some one cut the fuel pump out, and took the lsd. The wheels where gone and front right a-arm. The windows where left open and the interior was moldy. The engine looked very new and had covers on it I've never seen 7ms have (disy cover).
I took the radio bezel and shift boot and front lip. I wanted the seats but they where moldy.
It was next to a another supra 89 maroon this one was striped of all most everything

The guy at the counter was sad to see it there too, he said "It should not be in here supras are legendary, someone had to kill the engine it was cash-for-clunkers"
