Mostly superchargers have a lot of parasitic loss (look it up) while turbochargers have zero, and which are much more efficient in their no-loss power creation

turbochargers are the most logical way to go.

Parasitic loss is a given when dealing with a super charger.
So there's really nothing to look up if you get the theory of things.

The most logical way to go is to build an engine that actually puts out the ponies without the use of either.

No, i dont think turbo's are fake power, but theyre not the power im very interested in. Turbos are cool, dont get me wrong, they are very efficient, but unless im putting out MAJOR horsepower i feel like i should be able to do it without a turbo, and strictly design.

That's an opinion I can respect. :)

I was given dads n/a mk3 just before going to college about 12 years ago when he got his NSX. She has been super reliable and finally blew a head gasket at 155k. I just finished putting her back together with a head rebuild and she is purring once again. I was kind of neglecting her since I moved to California (been using public transportation).

I tried to consider going turbo when this happened, but I don't really have enough room in my garage, nor have any buds in the area to help that know how to do anything else with their hands but use a keyboard. Not to mention the supra is my only car atm and I just recently had a baby girl. I'm in the market for a new car and the supra will become my hobby car. I could see myself dropping a turbo in sometime in the future, like when/if I end up moving out of cali and back to washington state, although I kinda of like having a clean driving record :p

The problem with that approach is with only 3.0L and a 3500+ lb car you're already limited by the need for low to midrange torque to move the fat pigs.

ANY modification to an NA motor is going to move the torque curve upwards in the powerband and drivability will suffer unless you use very low diff gears, then highway cruise and economy suffer.

Forced induction helps overcome ALL of these downfalls and is a viable option giving the best of both worlds, power and economy.

I agree a 100%. You can get very low gears but a modified GTE tranny is needed, but that's another tread.....sorry back on topic.

I am NA because I heard turbos ate squirrels. And I love those little things. When I hear a turbo's drive by I can hear them crying :(

i started out with an 85 celica gt when i got into celicas. 3sgte powered with w58 trans and loved it to death. a train took it out....(long story). and i lived and most of the car did as well. bought another 85 shell and the 3s is on an engine stand ;) hehe. so i looked for another toyota to drive to and from work. saw my 89 n/a in a back alleyway locally. car had sat for 9 years. az car. no rust. bone stock. 105k miles. 5spd. didnt run. 500 bucks and i pulled it home with my wifes porsche 944 :D. put a walbro 255, new gas, berrymans b12, and a new battery and it fired up and just recently has a bhg at 157k. bone stock with crappy tires and like no exhaust because it fell off and a short ram it ran a 15.7. not bad but not fast. painted the car baby blue and put 17's on it and a week later the head gasket blew and i had an anal driver hit the pass. side fender :( now its getting fixed. why im NOT staying n/a? the n/a motor is going in an 83 celica of mine and a 7mgte i have in my garage is going in.

I love my NA. It is the way the car was when I bought it in 93. Just had the engine rebuilt, runs great. When it does blow I will replace it with a 1jZ or 2jZ, not sure. But I agree they are easier to maintain and I love squirrels. :biglaugh:

I have no intention of going to a track with it, or street racing. I am curious to see what I can do with it. I think I can get it to 275-300+ hp. I do know I can beat a G6 with it, had one on the highway wanted to go for it. :icon_bigg

If I really wanted power I could drop the 500+ RWHP Ford 302 we have sitting in the shop and probably come out cheaper than dropping in a JZ motor and tuning it to 500+ RWHP. The fabbing of mounts and figuring out how to wire the motor up is what will take the longest.

Side thought: the same said motor in a MKII....:evil2:
