Snowed in?? You're in melbourne! *confused*

Anyway, my engine symptoms are getting stranger. Current list:
  • Never starts first time when it is cold. When the engine has started recently (last 2 hours), it starts first time.
  • Idles rough (idle is at a steady rpm but seems to miss/shudder) itermittently
  • Loud hissing noise above 3000RPM/approx when boost starts spooling. (assuming boost leak or possibly broken stock BOV)
  • Hissing noise just started under the car, at approximately where the exhaust passes the transmission oil pan (exhaust leak, broken cat, clogged exhaust?)
  • Ticking noise still there... (haven't replaced any shims yet)
  • forgot to add: When accelerating from a stop, pushing the pedal doesn't correlate linearly to RPM increasing. Feels 'tight' for the first 2000RPM, and the power seems to 'kick' in, not come smoothly...

... sigh ...

:runaway:

I come from a land down under
Tom: I usually go out the Hume then across to Bright and over Mt Hotham and back in through Gippsland to break a new motor in!

Can't get over Hotham this time of year without chains!

Ahh, fair enough - sounds like a beautiful drive for two reasons (the scenery and the freshly built engines!) :)

What are you doing up this early?? :)

Thanks IJ, I'm going to go out and measure the resistance of the cold start switch and water temp sensor before I head off to work! *grabs the TSRM*

Jeesh, sounds like everything is going wrong in my car!

(I think IJ is a robot :D)

Tom: Think of the 7M as a system

If anything is not right it will throw EVERYTHING out! :(

You really need to correct any and all boost leaks as with MAF it has a big impact on how it runs.

Yeah, IJ, I understand... it's just annoying!

... so, I'm constantly asking myself "what next?". Well, received code 52 on the way to work. Knock sensor signal. Grumble grumble grumble...

Ah hah!

Pulled the stock blow off valve out this morning, i could blow air straight through it. That must be where the hissing is coming from. I can't wait to replace it (thinking HKS SSQV at the moment). :)

Also picked up a new fuel filter and two hilux sensor cables this morning so I can do the knock sensor rewire this weekend and fix my code 52! :D

Oh and my interior lock bezel came in from Japan this morning for only $10, I'm a happy boy today :D

Hurrah indeed!

Trying to find a place in Aus that sells HKS SSQV blow off valves with the recirculation fitting is another story... :(

Might have to get it from the USA

finding parts for this car in general is a PITA

i've been slowly working on my car again due to having a few days off work - managed to wire it all up myself (first try) in about an hour but i've also spliced a few new plugs and soldered a few(first try and learnt myself)

its good fun but i wish the thing would run! :p

Ordered a HKS SSQV kit for MA70, hopefully it gets here quickly :D

Still waiting on word of whether they can get the plumbback fitting for the SSQV in Australia - if not I'll either have to buy one from USA or get someone with a metal lathe to make me one :)

Hmm, also, I just finished making up some replacement knock sensor wires :)D) ... trying to work out the best place to run them through into the cabin/glovebox?

I can just poke a hole in the rubber grommet that the ECU loom goes through and feed them through there, but the grommet in question seems to have a big air cavity inside, perhaps to insulate the ECU wiring against a lot of the car's vibrations, twists and turns.. not sure whether poking a hole in the grommet will defeat this at all :icon_conf

lol

Only a mkIII owner would sing songs of praise after having to work on their Supra. It's good to hear you have it running though.
