Proper maintenance avoids this.

I generally don't build things that fall off so that's a non issue.

This thread made me laugh a couple times, It's funny how when you post intelligent things, only the intelligent will pick up on it. The rest will be doomed to "HELPP!!!!" threads and the like, and those who have a clue will be replying with links to threads like this..

:)

I would definitely not call it useless, it just does not change over the LARGE range of temperatures that toyota deems acceptable. I see no issue with this. When the car is getting too hot the stock gauge starts moving where it should. Just because it is incapable of showing you the difference between 190F and 200F does not really matter.

Also, looking at the graph above what does FSD stand for? I assume this is the % of full temperature displayed on the gauge? I think it would have been better to graph actual temperature from a thermistor or actual very accurate gauge vs. gauge position on the stock unit. I would like to know the range of temperatures the stock gauge thinks sitting right in the middle is ok for.

The range is closer to 190-240F that it thinks is ok. I'm not fond of the idea that 240F is ok. If my temps are heading north of 210, I want to know about it now, because I'm going to stay out of boost at the least, and possibly pull over, shut off the car, and read a book while it cools down. FSD stands for Full Scale Deflection - and he did both charts, FSD vs current and FSD vs temp. Here's the temp graph:

Over the pond
I asked this once in another thread and got no real answer IIRC... once more: Ideally, where should the undercover begin and where should it end? Is the size and all in pic in post nr 4 good or not? (from air flow in -> flow out point of view)
Is stock ideal? Anyone with a nice picture of a stock undercover attached to the car? :)
