Shit, some one should get a hold of toyota, or some one that can get discount toyota parts and have a GB on these. 95% of the supra's out there are missing them and need one.
Not sure on the current stock level but Toyota are reducing inventory of ALL parts so my "guess" is once they're all gone they're all gone :(

I have a fairly good one here that I need to mod a bit due to my accumulator mount.

could you made a good one out of a sheet of plastic like ABS plastic? it would be fairly ridged and light and not cost an arm and a leg. should be fairly easy to shape also. a heat gun and you could bend it if you like.

Well then I better get my ass in gear hear soon and order mine up!!!

Some one in the MKIII aftermarket parts business needs to start re-popping (replicate) these. I know a few are "trying" but it doesn't sound like any of them have a slightest idea of what there doing, at least by what there posting :biglaugh:

If I had the means I would, but don't have the slightest idea on "how to" vacuum forum plastic. At least Im guessing that is how they would be made.

i just googled "sheet of ABS plastic" and got lots of hits. check some of the industrial warehouses around your area. may be able to get like a 48" x 48" x 1/8" sheet fairly cheap and stincel something out of card board and there you go. i'm sure there will have to be alot of test fitting to get it right but it is possible.

A few facts to throw into the mix here, folks.

This piece from Toyota weighs basically nothing. Switching to Carbon Fiber might save you an ounce. Two at the outside. The dirt that gets caught on it usually weighs more than the part itself.

Anyone claiming that they run without a shroud / fan / undercover / anything else in the cooling system and it runs fine is either:
A. In denial
B. Never drives in hot climates
C. Foolishly relying on the stock temperature gauge, which is actually LESS accurate than an idiot light
D. Possibly all of the above

IMO, the biggest reason these fail is due to carrying too much weight on them. Oil leaks drip onto them, the oil picks up dust and dirt, this accumulates until often they are literally carrying around 20+ pounds of shit, and they tear out the mounting holes.

Lastly, keep in mind that nobody is going to thank you if you build / sell something that is capable of killing the people in the car behind you or the pedestrians beside you if it flies off at speed.

Proper maintenance avoids this.

ok you "reasons"...

i live in south Louisiana. Hell is cooler. i noticed my stock gauge is in the same spot as to when i had all parts on the car. Yes i have not spent more than 25-30 minutes in traffic because i don't live in a "big" city. I have let the car idle in one spot when i did my first build for 35-40 minutes in y drive way making sure everything was ok before I took it on the road and my gauge was in the normal place and just cause i have one i checked it with my hand held temp gauge that is very accurate. Never got to what i would call "hot" temps. stayed in the 200-215 range.

How ever i will be lookingin to replacing the under panal and getting a shroud if i can find one that does not have the wholes for the two AUX. electric fans in it. Or i may just go electric.

Remember that point I was making about the stock gauge? 3p141592654, a member here went to the effort to actually map out how accurate it is. Check this graph:

See what I mean about useless? Toyota engineered it this way on purpose, because they know from experience that designing gauges that work makes owners worried and causes more service calls.

Furthermore, the fact that you run without the undercover or shroud probably explains why your car runs at 200-215, while mine, which has both of those, runs at a solid 194 all the time, measured on my Greddy temp gauge, whether I'm driving in Alaska or Vegas, taking it easy or speeding uphill.

Cool, so I could be running about 20 deg cooler than i am. i have a Auto-Gage temp gauge. think this would be better than the stock one?

IMO, holding your hand over the radiator and GUESSING is more accurate than the stock gauge. There's nothing wrong with Autometer.

I use to work at a company called Plastic Innovations, and that's all they made were plastic parts from molds. But we used mold injection. Which would NOT be the route for this type of niche type marketing. Since our molds ranged from 100k to 500k each.

I would definitely not call it useless, it just does not change over the LARGE range of temperatures that toyota deems acceptable. I see no issue with this. When the car is getting too hot the stock gauge starts moving where it should. Just because it is incapable of showing you the difference between 190F and 200F does not really matter.

Also, looking at the graph above what does FSD stand for? I assume this is the % of full temperature displayed on the gauge? I think it would have been better to graph actual temperature from a thermistor or actual very accurate gauge vs. gauge position on the stock unit. I would like to know the range of temperatures the stock gauge thinks sitting right in the middle is ok for.
