Hi all

Good news

Problem found

After checking everything , we didn't have any other idea just the KONI s

So got them out and yeeeeeeeeeeeees

On the right both of my pretty new KONI shock absorbers are dead....

I still have warranty on them so i will try to change them asap -but they told me that koni had so many orders that the news one will arrive in 3 months
(what????????????????)

So I will try to speed them up,but until that point factory absorbers going in

In the back they are already in -it is absolutely different-cars back feels like you are on a boat :biglaugh:

Happy to find the problem

I will try to post some new pictures so stay tuned

Oh one more thing I just received a nice package from Forcedtorque
A nice front strut bar -I will install it this weekend and try to post some pictures up :naughty:

Update time

Went to my Koni dealer -and they restored the koni-s (back)-they came out pretty nice so they will go in this week and hope this will solve the problem

I think I have to get the front ones out also they measured them -said they are ok- but I don't think that-the front right one must have a serious problem

So I will get them out and have them restored soon

Most of you guys I think never been to Hungary before ,but I think in our capital Budapest we must have the worst quality roads ever imagined

So they can kill our sweathearts fast...

Strut bar is in thanks a lot to Scott/Forcedtorque-You can really feel the difference..

This week I will post pictures up-sorry for that ,but I am really busy nowadays

I will keep you posted

Stay Tuned :biglaugh:

Bad luck again

My Koni dealer restored the 2 shock absorbers on the back-I truted them

But when we started to put them in yesterday one was fine but it seems to me they did not touch the other one ...It was a piece of junk

You push it in and it comes out with one finger -it is a disaster

Just talked to them so next week i have to go back

One more thing

Yesterday I had the opportunity to sit in a 1987 shelled Supra with a JZ engine --never had the opportunity before to see the difference between my
7 MGTE and the JZ

Now I got it in my face...

It was really on the road (not like mine now) ,had a Garrett in and

450 HP

It is so much faster then mine -- it was really fast

Mine will live with the =M cause I really like her this way ,but you know JZ is another level
Absolutely (but you guys have many there so must know it....:biglaugh:)

I will post pictures soon Promise

So see ya till then

It's awesome to see such persistence and diligence in such a build! Just keep her running and I'm sure she'll treat you well. It's nice to see MKIIIs in Europe - nice ones are rare and worth quite a bit of $$$ I bet!

That looks so much better with the stock piping than it did with my aluminum aftermarket pipes. The color even looks like a better match in your car too. That's weird, as our cars are the same color.

Good luck on the Koni's! Those are a pain to keep pulling and installing I'm sure.

Hi all
I decided to update before i go on holiday
So my upper suspension arms before in horrible condition

upperarms2dh3.jpg

Then we had to take them apart

upperarmsapartcloserrz5.jpg

And after that I took it to a repairman who put new ball joints in and after that they went to a hungarian specialist making upgrades for rally teams.
He custom made 8 new bush for me.They are red and like plastic ,but they are not from plastic, much better than the original rubber ones so now i am in the corners real nice .
Really feel the difference
Sorry no pictures of the final product because we replaced them so fast ...
After it i realized i missed to make pics...Sorry

I noticed you had your upper control arm ball joints replaced. Do you have any details on this? As I was told the part was not serviceable here in the US. Any insight that could help me change them out would be great!

Great restoration!!! I read the entire 15 pages!

Thanks Scott

You know I don't think our cars are the same colour -I just have a very bad camera and it is not able to give us back the real colour of my beauty....

But strut bar is just perfect -I got some leftover paint I might paint the ends later on -but now I have the steering issue and also have to take care of the suspension issue so I will be really busy...

Hi

I just pulled them out and have a really good contact here who restored them in an hour and they are better then factory ones...
He works really great

You know I really don't think that in the US they cannot do it the right way -trust me just keep searching for the right guy...

Good luck

I just read the whole thread.

Excellent workmanship, your first couple of pages were amazing. I also have a red Supra, but it's of a whole different generation :) Same 7mgte power though!

Yes you are absulotulety right -if you read the whole thing it seems that nothing happened since the first 3 pages but it is not true at all

I am really sorry that I did not document how she looked like before-mostly pink(the whole car)

And I am sorry that I didn't take any pictures when we did the motor -it was fully rebuilt -, aswell as the turbo (original ct26 rebuilt ) ,new stock intercooler and so on....by that time I didn't have as much knowledge of Supras and I ordered all parts directly from factory -but you know -it came out really nice

I hope this motor will run another 200.000 kms -I am treating her really well -so I might get lucky and won't have a BHG

I checked out the first couple pages, that's a pretty serious tear down. I like the muffler on there too. What kind of muffler is it?

Hi all -update time

If you guys remember I had problems with the steering.
Steering wheel stucked in a roundabout and needed to tear it to the right direction not to have an accident.
By that time I had a former guy who changed my intermediate shaft-that caused the problem , but guess what happened he changed my upper steering column assembly also...
From that point I had that serious steering issue -ticking all the time and did interesting things-the feeling was like somebody from the passanger seat grabs the steering wheel and pulls it hard to the right (but I was alone in the car :1zhelp:)
So nice to be over this -problem solved

I went to my buddy and we started to pull the steering column assembly out

Meanwhile my original one sitting calmly - waiting to go in

We started to pull the bastard out

More to come

And guess what happened when we pulled it out

leftovernotnormal.jpg

That thing not supposed to stay there ...
We pulled it out and it was a disaster-the inner part of the upper steering assembly was apart...

We checked my original one and that was totally ok(that part was in it )-interesting

We also inspected both of them ...

originalandshit.jpg

and find one more thing -we think that the guy must have put in this part from a 86-88 model -there was 2 serious difference
The major one that the intermediate shaft must be 3 cm-s longer in the 86-88 model than the 89+models...that caused us a little problem...
The other difference is luckily documented
The pre 89 model had a whole on it

before89steeringcolumnc.jpg

to be continued...

My original 1991 did not have anything

myoriginal89.jpg

we couldn't figure out what the purpose of that hole was

we had to get everything from the old one and put back on my original one

letstearitdown.jpg

When we started to put my original one back in we have to face that I had the longer intermediate shaft in
Needed 4 hands to put it together but in the end it was successful and it went in nice

installed.jpg

and the almost final stage

almostdone.jpg

i was not really lucky all my plastic covers around were damaged and when we touched them -they broke into many pieces
Next week I will get a nice set and install them

Other thing

Floating issue solved also
She just needed a good adjustment (we did it 3 times before on a laser pad-trust me never ever use that -it is a disaster)
We just adjusted it by ourselves and it is better now then ever

Next the shock absorbers turn
I will get a set of nice factory ones next week-install them -and get the KONIs out and I will have them restored the right way I think I found the right guy for the job...:naughty:

Stay tuned
I will keep you posted

You know better have 2 children / or a really expensive girlfriend than a Supra if you see it from the money side -she is an endless money pit :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

Wow, that's nuts Georgee. Atleast you guys figured out the problem and got it fixed. That was a serious issue. You're going from Koni's to stock struts???? That seems a little backwards, but I'd assume there's a very sound reason behind your decision.

The stocks will be in only for a week
Till my KONIs will get a serious upgrade
Found a guy who builts really seriuos stuff out of anything even the stock ones (but i will spare the stocks and just store them)
After that -the KONIS are going back in -they will be really tough :icon_bigg:naughty::icon_bigg
