I like the shadow grey, but not dark enough for me... I've dyed everything except the door panels black. I may do those tomorrow tho.

Made some progress today, hooked up the harness and connected some vacuum lines.

GOOD NEWS = Check engine light is coming on as it should.

BAD NEWS = Left the key in the switch for a few days and the battery is too dead to start.

Have it on the charger now and am hoping to re-attempt a start, before it gets dark. Wish me luck!

Update: Sputter but no start... went and got some Super/Premium gas(since the liitle bit in the tank is probably bad and not enough). Will try again tomorrow and get more done...gonna be 74 degrees WOOHOO!!!

Would've LOVED to stay home and do more, but after months of being anti-social (because fo swap-related work), I had to make some appearances at a couple of Superbowl parties.

Gonna bust-@$$ this week tho, since the weather's gonna be warm.

Well, went to change the oil since I've let it idle here and there. Suprise, suprise.... I guess I am still paying for all the bad things I did as a kid.

I thought it may just be condensation at 1st and figured I'll change the oil a couple of more times, but seeing this and watching the temp stay above 250 on my aftermarket guage, says only 1 thing. B Fing HG!

Man, I just need a freakin' break. If I bust-@$$, how long will it take? Same as a 7M??

Dang Elvis, that sucks. I got nervous and pulled the head on mine while it was still on the stand. I had about 7 or 8 cooling jacks completely blocked. There was a ton of rust/sludge in the coolent passages. I have no doubt I would have blown the HG on my 2J as well. At least you caught it early and not on the road to the meet.

It might take a little longer on the 2J to swap because the head bolts are under the cams. However, you dont have the gay intercooler pipes in the way, so that saves some time.

Gonna take advantage and install the USDM cams I have (silver lining to every cloud, huh).

How'd you clear the rust/sludge? Scrape/vacuum at the same time, so that it would not fall back in?

That sucks elvis! So close but so fare away. If you hop on it you could have it done before tx2k8. If you decide to sale it like you did the last one let me know.

I tilted the engine on its side with the head angled down. Kinked the corner of the water hose with vice grips to make a little opening. Just sprayed and scraped with wire brushes and screw drivers. It turned out really nice. When I was done, I just used compressed air to dry everything. I also didn't have the oil pan on either. It will be harder to do in the car, thats for sure but you should be able to get most of it out.

US cams will do. At least your thinking positive. Also I'd consider myself lucky to find out when you did at the house vs. on the road somewhere. Hope you don't have any more wrenches thrown your way.

Sucks, but not too suprising, considering that we saw melted spots on the original coilpacks. Seems like it had been overheated before and I shoulda taken it apart, before dropping it in. Another example of being hasty and costing more time/inconvenience.

I still have the other 1990. We will probably drop the wife's 2J N/A into it, after we do her TT swap. Just don't have the time for it right now (even to make ready for sale).

Would be nice to know who the source of the engine was if they are still selling could let next guy know. I guess I'm lucky no problems w/mine other that starting issue which isn't engine related.

Cassio (Ian) and I got our Aristo front clips from Rims&Things... He had rod-knock on his... That's 0 out of 2. Next 2J is definitely not coming from there. The headbolts on the exhaust side were loose enough to remove by hand (hand-tight, no cheater bar necessary).

The head's still at the machineshop, but I have lots more left to do. I've replaced the front/rear targa seals, done some painting, ordered final parts needed, and a few other things.

I re-did the targa tonight... new seals, Dynamat, and re-covered the headliner. I thought I'd get to recover the steering wheel, but targa took longer than expected. I've had these new rails for about 10 years. The material is a black-velvet-type material. Still needs a final cleaning and looks much better than the pics show.

Yes, I do want the grey/black two-tone look.
