I just did something a bit stupid and now my car is running like crap and making a weird noise. I use that additive called Mystery Oil from time to time to clean out and lubricate the fuel system. They recently changed they're bottle style and its now more concentrated than it was before. I accidentally put too much into the gas tank (enough for two 15 gallon fill ups) and the car started to run extremely rich after I used about a quarter tank. Once that happened checked the bottle and found out my mistake. I topped off the car with more gas to try to dilute it and adjusted the VPC and GCC to fix the AFR issue but then it started misfiring. I looked online to see if anyone had done this too and it turns out several people had made the same mistake. The only thing I saw that was happening to the car other than running rich was that a few people said it was fouling their plugs. I had been planning on changing out the plugs anyway so I figured I was gonna have to use more gas in the tank to dilute it further before anything would get better. It is my daily driver so I kept driving it. I used up 3 quarters of the tank and refilled it. The car started to run better and I had to adjust the VPC and GCC again, but the idle was still off. I checked the plugs and 3 of them were fried and the others looked like crap too; so I changed them out. The car felt better right off the bat but when its under load it makes this weird sound like if something is loose and vibrating. It only does it when its under load and sometimes on deceleration. If the car slowly accelerates it doesnt make the sound. Usually around 2500RPMs at higher RPM's it seems fine. I havent tried boosting on it yet and I'm not planning on it until I know what it is. The car feels better with the new gas and the idle has improved but every now and then it will stumble and the idle will be off again and will slowly pick itself up again. Im hoping that not all of the additive is out of the fuel system yet and thats why its doing that, as for the sound I'm thinking maybe something in the valvetrain has gone horribly wrong or maybe an injector but i guess time will tell. I guess the moral of the story is to check the back of the label before you pour anything in. Wish me luck

Well, you may need a new o2 sensor,
and if your car has a cat, it may take time to burn off the layer of 'Marvel', so it may be a little clogged.

Personally, I would never dump any type of oil in the gas.
The only 'moose milk' I ever use is one of the injector cleaners.
I prefer Berrymans, but any of them will cut through some of the accumulated grime.

Yeah this is probably gonna be the last time I use it. Granted it was my fault for not reading the instructions but they changed the damn bottle on me. Now seeing how much trouble im going through, i feel ill just be too paranoid to use it again.

I'm running a stright pipe so i dont think its the cat. The check engine light doesnt pop up so i dont think that the O2 sensor is the culprit either. Im taking the day off today to really give it a good check. I have a feeling (or at least I'm praying) its something simple. Thanks for the ideas! Ill keep you guys posted

On a side note are any of you guys going to this months cars and coffee?

Alright, last night first run I launched at about 3k and had naaaaasty wheel hop. 3.2 60ft ran a 15.4 @ 104.
Second run eased off the line, 2.4 60ft, wheel hop through most of second, ran a 13.9 @ 105.
Third run eased off the line and second gear, 2.2 60ft, ran a 14.1 @ 106.
Any tips to get rid of the wheel hop?? I didn't drop my tire pressure but that wouldn't create wheel hop would it?
I'll be going to the track this wednesday with different tires. They're older tires with less tread so ill be battling traction issues instead of wheel hop, we'll see what happens

The shocks that are on it are only about 2 years old though..maybe lowering it will help? Cause stock it sits really high

And still running the 1j. Doin a 1.5jz build though. Taking everything one month at a time. Pickin up a fully built head in a week or so, next month getting a stock assembled 2j block from toyota then next month turbo set up

Stock shocks were never intended to control your type of power.
They were meant to give a nice ride :)

Also consider going to aftermarket polly bushings in the rear.
Including subframe, diff mount, and control arms, as they all control 'wind up' of the drive train.
Any rubber bushing acts as a spring (without dampaning), so they will load, release, and load again, causing hop.
Polly bushings are much stiffer, and allow very little movement under load.
Solid is better yet, but noisy.
I have all polly in the back end of my car, and handling is a world different, as all the bits don't move around when a load is applied.
My turbo build will be all metal (solid subframe & diff mounts, and hiem joints everywhere else).

The Mk3 diff bolts solid, there are no rubber mounts that I know of.
Only the Mk2, and the Cressidas had rubber mounted rear ends.

But just wait, hammer your Mk3 enough, and it will start floating,
from cracks in the sub-frame :-(
Half the Mk3s that I've been under at pick&pull had cracked rear subframes, right around where the rear cover bolts to the subframe.

There are pleanty of threads here that show what people do to strengthen them, so they don't break.
Got to do that soon on my turbo project (arg, more work)

Dude, thanks for posting your 1/4 mile results. I always wondered what my old car would run. I figured she would run 105 in the 1/4, based on the roll races (punch from 2nd gear, etc.) I had back when it was mine. I guessed right!

Starting in 2nd, holy smokes! That's the 4.30 for you.
Glad to hear you're having fun with the car.

Noice! Heh.

I had beaten Mazdaspeed 3 (100+ trap), a Z28 that trapped 97, etc. so I knew the old 1JZ could move out once it got traction.

Yea it definitely moves. Took out one of the new twin turbo 335i's, modded cobra, modded wrx.
An e85 tuned full bolt on evo only pulled me by a little over a car, ive kept up with a ninja 600 for about half of 3rd gear...lol

And the motor is essentially stock! The only thing I've done to it since I've got it is put a stage 4 clutch in it and a y-pipe

How tough was the Y-pipe install and did you also (I assume) upgrade from the stock DP?

I never did myself because #1 I was too lazy too mess with the Y pipe and #2 I figured the car would hit boost cut non-stop in 3rd or definitely 4th.
