Hey, don't knock the 4.8l vortec. Have your friend read this http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/hrdp_1109_stock_gm_ls_engine_big_bang_theory/ . They set out to put as much power to this motor to deliberately destroy it. They ended up making over 1200hp before they ran out of (dyno) time, and it was still going strong. This was the article I was telling him about while at the dragstrip.

Here's another article I've read and I was really really thinking about going this route. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/...53l_gen_iii_small_block_for_3252/viewall.html
5.3's are abundant, and have lots of off the shelf aftermarket support.
Im sure that the 4.8l vortec has plenty to give but you have to install supporting modifications in order for it to succeed (just like anything else). The guys on those articles pushed the short block to its limits but upgraded fuel systems, did some custom work, and what not in order to push the limits of those blocks (which was pretty awesome by the way). My friend, on the other hand, doesnt seem to be too concerned with adding any supporting mods, not to mention that the truck is his daily driver. I've never ran a car or seen a car running nitrous while still basically stock, thats the reason why i just figured it wasnt a bright idea. Deep down my inner child wanted to edge him on, i've never ridden a car with nitrous on it so that would be pretty cool experience. Either way, its his truck so that makes it his decision. Time will tell on what he decides on doing

*rubs hands together evilly* MWUAHAHAAHA!

On a more somber note, my wife and I got rearended in our 1993 Celica Friday night on our way to a concert. Some tinyprickduchebag driving a hotrodded Cummins was racing a buddy when the light turned green behind me and couldnt get his rig shutdown in time. As of this moment, I fucking hate Geico. We filed a claim half an hour after the wreck happened and they claim they can't do anything until they talk to the other driver, even though I have an SAPD police report (they claim he hasnt answered the phone for them yet). I deliver pharmaceuticals for a living in that car, so I've been out of work since Friday technically. They said it is going to take another 2-3 days to just get me a fucking rental car.

Sooooo, I have an appointment with Jim Adler's law firm tomorrow. Hopefully, I'm gonna take Geico's asshole, move in, do some remodeling, knock down a few walls and get a truckstop parking lot to fit in there... Not to mention the fact that my back and my wife's back are legitimately screwed up. She's active duty Air Force and has mandatory PT. She took a Vicodin this morning and an hour later, couldnt manage more than a crawl from the pain she was still under.

Sorry for all the negativity lol

Also, there is/was a Turbo MKIII in Kyle with a complete 7M-GTE with R154 for sale, $800 for the whole car. If it's still available and I have money from insurance left over after buying my wife another car, I may buy it and swap the motor and tranny in my Supra.

Anybody got a complete 7M-GTE with harness, ecu & igniters for sale in the S.A. area??? Rather than re-build my 7MGE with a BHG, I'd would like to upgrade. Thanks.

I believe my master cylinder is leaking where the seal is between the it and the reservoir. Once I confirm it, I'm going to pull it and change it out for another one. Hopefully that's all it is. I have to get the wife to operate the clutch pedal so I can see where it's leaking from.

Edit: It's my brake master cylinder, not the clutch MC. What was I thinking?

I've had the same issue on finding a goid 7mgte harness. Not many around and if you do find one in good condition they try nd sell it like its worth gold. Good luck.

Oh by the way guys...i found out that my car had the wrong flywheel on it. So now i have to find it a decent price flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate setup. Mannnn this car is 3pretty steps forward 6and backwards!! Oh well should be finished pulling everything from the engine bay and cleaning it. Then hopefully off to get paint sometime in the next week or two.

How's the car going David? Have you gotten over the fuel cut issue? Did you do the Lex AFM & fuel upgrades yet?

Latest on my ride is I bought this PCIMIA serial port adapter card that is supposed to work with my MAP ECU, but it doesn't. So I can't do any tuning just yet. Still running low boost for the moment. Brake master cylinder isn't sealing good to the reservoir and is leaking. I have to pull it and see about getting another one. It should still be under warranty, but it not I'll just have to fork over the dough. I really haven't been driving it much lately. That's where I'm at with the car.
