this engine is so unforgiving when it comes to running low on oil, and with any turbo charged car an oil pressure gauge is a must have, aftermarket is preferred of course. i'm redoing my entire gauge cluster with new defi's before i even start up my next rebuilt engine. i'm going to get a larger oil pan made and look into the 2jz pickup like was mentioned in another thread, and i'm going to consider a sump system. these things are really not optional when pushing >stock HP, especially 450+

When the time comes, I'm going to have lots of questions about all this.

Man...what hard luck Kyle. Somebody make sure this dude has a ride to Centralia...he really needs some Supra love right now. I look forward to your thoughts on getting that beast back on the road man!

This is an example of why not to do a headgasket replacement without disassembling the bottom end. All that work for 2k miles is not really worth it.
With the bottom end apart you would have seen the excessive wear on the bearings, and/or cylinders causing the oil consumption. I'm not saying this to bag on you Kyle, hopefully others will see why fixing a bhg with just a hg replacement usually does not pay off in the end.

Well said.

I had BHG 2 1/2 weeks ago. I thought I would just do the head and thats it.
After talking to more experienced 7m guys on here and esp IJ, I decided to pull my block out and redo everything.

I looked at my bearings and they were badly worn...Now I am replacing everything...and I feel more comfortable that I am doing it right.
And perhaps the most important thing is I am learning alot about the 7m.

Just get a few guys who live close to you to help you out with space and putting it back together. It looks like a few people have actually offered their help and thats good.

just keep asking questions from the more experienced guys on here...Im sure they wont mind you bugging them all the time.:icon_bigg

Cheers,
Roy

I think I'll have my own whip.
I haven't contacted the seller yet, but I've got a good feeling about it...

I really wish I would've gone the same route as you are Roy, I'm definitely regretting it now. I'm looking forward to this rebuild, I'm going to take my time, learn a whole lot and get it done RIGHT.
thank you for the words of encouragement and advice.

That's not always true. It's all variables. I've done a few hg before and never touched the bottom end. How many rod knocks have I had? Zero.
Not saying it's a bad idea to take apart the bottom and replace bearings but there's nothing wrong with just doing a hg if you do it right.

Another good point. As stated in the post that supracenteral made about rodknock, if you don't drain all your liquids and make sure nothing contaminates your oil, you should be okay, granted you take care of it, and check the oil almost everyday, which I should have been doing.

Mark-
It'll be coming soon enough, I need to figure out where I'm going to pull the engine, and if I do it at my house, where I'm going to get a cherry picker and engine stand, and a lot of other tools that I don't have. if I do it at my house, I'm going to need to figure out what to do with a bunch of boxes and bikes in there and clear it with my parents.

kyle you know that I know and feel your pain. I think JJ said it well, remember, you own the car, it does not own you. Like me I think its time to cut your losses. Whether that means sell now or find a way to fix it and sell it, or just fix it...is for you to decide.

Either way, I know the feeling and Im sorry its happened to ya.
