R154 Trouble

Ok, well searching answered a few of my questions but I was curious about other input on this.

I installed the R154 one my n/a last week and everything seemed to be working alright. No problems shifting or going into gear at all. My friend had mentioned replacing the shifter bushing which I have done now.

The thing is it makes somewhat of a weird noise when accelerating and decelerating, a noie I did not hear when I had my GTE installed. I followed the installaion procedure in the tsrm and greased everywhere that it reccomended and it still sounds strange.

I used some brake kleen to get all of the old grease off the surfaces of the clutch and disc while I had it out and regreased the fork but I don't believe I greased the throw-out bearing. I don't recall spaying brake kleen on it either. It seems to have trouble going into 3rd and 4th at times and the engagement areas I feel through the stick don't seems to be in the exact right places.

Technically it still works, it just doesn't feel right and that sound is really making me wonder as I haven't found the cause for it yet.
It's almost like a mechanical whine or maybe reminiscent of an electric motor.
It's a 6-puck ACT and I used the exact same flywheel that I had on it before.
I quite positive I installed it correctly but still open to suggestions that I f'd something up.

Thanks for any help guys.

I pulled the motor and tranny from my car, and lost quite a bit of fluid in the process. Over a year later when I put it back in, I completely forgot it had lost any. After about a week or so driving it, it developed a noise similar to what you describe. I just replaced my tranny, because 3rd gear did what you said, but gradually got to where it wouldn't go into 3rd at all

Well third gear has actually gotten easier since I've replaced the shifter bushing 4th has been working lately but still doesn't feel quite right. I'm still wondering if maybe I don't have enough pedal free play. I bled the slave so I'm pretty sure that's ok.

The only thing is, I remember on my new master cylinder the shaft was a little longer than the one that was originally in there but it never gave me problems before.

make sure the pedal is adjusted correctly (I didn't use the tsrm specs, i went with a 'feel' based setting), what fluid are you running? My r-154 makes a ton of noises, different pitches for every gear, but it works great. it's really not a smooth tranny, but it holds the power

I am using prestone dot 3 synth I bled the pedal again yesterday night and it seems that the fork moves more than it did before but it still makes that weird noise.
The reason it bothers me is that it never make that noise before the swap and now it does. I'm trying to make sure it wasn't something I screwed up while installing it.
It grinds sporatically, not every single time.

It is taking way too much effort to throw the stick into gears when the tranny is hot, specifically 4th and 5th.
The weird thing is 4th makes no noise but almost every other gear does. It does that quick grind like trying to shift straight into reverse on our trannies.
I'm gonna try to check the fluid level but I haven't seen a drop anywhere.
The engagment point in the shifter itself seems to vary it's position back and forth. I still haven't figured out what the problem is.

I don't know anything other than it wasn't giving me all this crap before. :(

I don't believe this man. Once I was almost done pulling the tranny I notice a tiny drop of something on the bottom of the tranny.
Apparently the thing has been leaking out of the drain since last August when I replaced the fluid the first time.
Rebuild or new transmission time now. :icon_mad:

That drip must have been so slow because there was never any trace of lost gear oil anywhere. The redline must stick really well have lasted that long and having been so low. Gonna check for shavings later and see how much is down there. :nono:
