It's 6 bolts that just need a torque wrench, 2 sockets, and thread locker. You don't take out your radiator to put on your crank pulley like I do? If you pull the radiator (takes 20 minutes, including draining time) you will have a ton more room to work with.

After using a cheese grater style file to get rid of the bulk of the excess JB Weld I used 800 grit sand paper to fine sand the crank and sorta polish it a little. The JB Weld didn't fully fill in the cuts, but it's good enough that I'm happy and comfortable. I used a digital caliper to measure the crank and my ATI hub, the hub is 0.005" smaller than the crank. For those of you wondering, JB Weld sands just like bondo does. Here's a pic of the end result.

I just picked up the January 2011 issue of Import Tuner, and on page 17 is the coverage of the 2010 PacNW Supra Nationals. More importantly to me, in the upper left hand corner is a picture of my engine bay! Must mean I'm doing something right. Next step, getting a full feature in a magazine. I'm pretty happy to say the least. To know that my engine bay is good enough to make it into a magazine is pretty freaking awesome!

Just made a trip up to Abbotsford, B.C. to get the parts I needed. Got my lower timing cover, the timing belt drive gear, and the drive gear retaining ring. I also picked up some fresh ATF and plastic welding stuff to repair my hydrofan. With any luck, I'll have the Supra back on the road Monday.

Great news! My motor is all back together and everything runs properly. Got a wierd issue with my lights, so I'll figure that out tomorrow. I noticed a small cut in my lower hydrofan hose, so I'll replace that as well. And if I get a chance, the diff will be getting swapped tomorrow too.

Congrats on making things operate once more!
I must be mistaken, but you polished the crank snout with 800 grit sand paper another .005" for the hub to fit?

Close. I did sand the crank snout with 800 grit sand paper to clean it up, but that's it. The ATI hub I had was .005" too small. Once I get the new hub, I will be taking my Supra up to Bill Bowering's new shop in Langley, B.C. to have him install the ATI Super Damper, double check that everything is ok, and then finish tuning my Supra.

I drove my Supra up to Bill Bowerings new shop and left it with him yesterday. On the way up my Supra developed a bucking throttle where it would cut in and out while cruising but if I accellerated it would be fine. I'm letting Bill take care of that issue, along with installing my ATI Super Damper crank pulley and finish dyno tuning my Supra. With any luck the issue will be minor and I will have my Supra back on the dyno in about 2 weeks, depending on what all is wrong with the throttle issue and how long the machine shop takes to hone my hub.

Small update, due to circumstances beyond the control of Bill and myself Bill has had to find a new shop and has been looking furiously for the last month to find one. He may have found one, but is still waiting on the inspectors report. In the mean time I have ordered a new OEM headgasket from Driftmotion as well as a new set of ARP head studs. More progress to come hopefully soon.

Hope everything works out for you, you deserve a smooth end to your build. You have almost been doing this as long as I have!

Thanks Fred. It seems like every time I try and get my Supra back on the road something goes wrong. But I have solved every issue so far with an upgraded solution. This Supra is almost 4 years in the making and it still has a long ways to go. I just want my beast back on the road.

So I heard that the cuts in your crank were worse then you told us. Did you scrape the crank now?

Yeah, they were worse than I thought. Keep in mind that I didn't do the cutting into the crank. The crank isn't true so my whole crank is bad. I am going to use the spare bottom end I have and use everything else from the motor that's in my Supra right now, including my head. When we pull the head off of my spare motor we will do a close inspection of the bottom end I plan to use. Since the motor has been sitting for 2+ years I predict a can of PB Blaster will be needed to get things moving again. Absolute worse case scenario, we have to put the head back on my block with the bad crank and swap the cranks.

I'm going to let Bill decide what I do and do not need for this project. What will be doing is beyond anything I have ever done so I will be relying on his expert knowledge to guide the process. If I do end up swapping cranks, yes I will be replacing the front and rear main seals along with replacing the bearings. With any luck though, I won't have to do any of that and will be able to just use the bottom end as it sits with a little conditioning.
