Funny this thread was bumped... I just made this:

Sorry my camera sucks, I'll take more pics in the day-light.

I got tired of the set screws, so I welded on some threads from a 12M bolt at homedepot. :)

Why didnt you just get a die and thread it?
The sogi mod makes the remaining metal part thinner than the top part that the stock shifter threads onto. You can't thread something smaller to make it bigger unless you did like him and weld metal in there. But commonly instead of buying a bolt like him i've heard of people making just a chunk of metal and tapping either end and using it as sort of an adapter.

Also Honda Civics have the same thread size as the knob I got. I believe the size is 10x1.25.

i was going to buy a weighted honda knob from ebay and make it fit but if i can thread it, thats what i'll do. :icon_bigg

Well, since this thread's been bumped, figured I'd make a note on my SOGI mod. Post #57 I mentioned I was getting a GReddy Counterweight shift knob in the 10mmxP1.5 Honda fitment.

Three comments that I have on my setup:

1. Even if you're a dumbass (like me) and cut the threads cockeyed on the shaft, 3/4--1" of threaded rod still holds a shift knob on way better than 3 lame setscrews could ever dream of. Also the offset threading angles the knob towards me, so it kinda looks like I did it on purpose when it's all together.

2. An additional purpose of the rubber piece between the two metal halves: heat insulation. If my car sits after the engine gets warm, the GReddy knob (which is heavy chromed steel) gets HOT. I'm sure I look like a tool driving around with my right Mechanix glove on...

3. The GReddy knob I picked out (and several other knob-style designs) are so short! Imagine MK3Brent's setup, but the shift knob is only 2/3 as tall. I've gotten used to it, and I really like the heavy weight of the knob--but it's so short.

Since I messed up the thread job and it's so short, I'll probably weld on a piece of threaded rod to bring the height up an inch or two (and straighten it out a bit)

P.S. Brent, thought you were going for an artsy look with those pics...never would've known if you didn't mention it!

Yeah, I did mine awhile back, and welded back on the threads as well. Probably the best mod you can do. I also have a new shift knob, boot, and emergency brake boot. Looks great.

i did this with a piece of pipe i found at home depot. works great as an adapter. it makes the sogi mod 100% better than using a shift knob with set screws.

i am using the stock shift knob and it feels great.

Is this a pipe that is already threaded both ways to put on the lower sogi shifter and have the knob on the other end? Pics and info please.....
