I hella appreciate the assistance and moral support man. I have been talking to one of my friends, he has a 400 SBC in a 69 firebird. He said TOTAL rebuild with nice pistons, rods, the whole deal only set him back 2100....So....I might be able to have this done the right way....if I am not in prison for murder.

SBC is far cheaper and doesn't require the same level of precision as a 7M. It's not going to be that cheap, sorry...

Wow, I'm sad I missed this one from the beginning.

Dropping in a used 7m might be the easiest solution. I bought a crate motor for about 2k which could be a good move...it comes with a 3 year warranty. About 500 to 1k to install...call it good and drive it IMO.

Oh, and btw...keep one of your blown motors....make a hobby of taking it apart, learning about it, get performance parts and then build it up on your own...so when the 3 year warranty runs up, swap in your built motor and then turn the boost up :). Keep the crate motor as a spare for when you blow your built motor...

I'm rambling...goodluck

I do oil changes every 2000 miles, check the oil EVERY single day maybe even twice a day.. (no one can say I'm over protective either) were talking about a 7M here..

You're overprotective and wasting money and giving out bad advice. None of my Supras run less than a 5,000 mi change interval on synthetic, one of them runs 8,000 mi change intervals with a filter at 4k... My MKIII has 280,000 miles on it. My hardtop MKIV has 189,000 miles on it.

(My Ford Expedition 4x4 has 275,000+ miles on it - and it get oil changes at 5,000 miles as well. Theresa's MR-S runs an 8K change interval as well.)

The change intervals for these cars were developed by doing a VOA and UOA with TBN via Blackstone Labs.

While he may be doing some ignorant things, adding more ignorance to the mix isn't helping...

You need to spend some time reading in this forum:

At this point it's likely the most economical one.

I had the cars moved today. Now at my gf's grandparents. Going to try and pull the motor this weekend, take off oil pan and see what's what... My gf's grandpa was a helicopter specialist or whatever, in the miltary for 40 years, so he at least knows about a turbocharger. I got a camera to borrow for the weekend too.

^lol.

I would not drop a jdm motor in without inspecting it first and at the least putting a new hg on.

agreed. last sr20 i imported had a rod knock from first start. pulled it apart after they refused to take it back on warranty, and long story shot, the main and rod bearings had rusted to the crank from sitting dry of oil for who knows how long, and there was just no saving any of it.

I got my motor with a 3 year warranty from Jasper. I had a lot of bolt ons and the motor started making knock. I sent it back, and they exchanged w/o any issues. I still have the 2nd motor, and she purrs like a kitten. Once the warranty wore off, I did a MHG on it.

So, I forgot the camera I borrowed from my friend ashlee at school, like a dumbass, but i have made progress on the car. I took a bunch of crap off, and drained the oil, and radiator. went fishing in both fluids with a magnet, found zero metal bits. there were very very small bits of rust in the radiator, which i found odd, as it is aluminum, but I found the thermostat was slightly rusted. So, I attribute the rust in the rad to the thermostat. Had it running before i ripped it apart, and my gf's grandpa, who has done a hundred billion trillion motors in his 72 years of life, says it sounds like one single bad rod. I wasn't thinking before hand, otherwise, i would have pulled each spark plug one by one until the knock got more quiet....but, anyway....motor should be out tomorrow.

ALSO!~!!!! When I have the motor itself put back together, I am going to REALLY need someone to like...walk me threw the vacuum lines, and whatnot...and the electronic bits...Think I am going to be able to drop all the smog junk though, so there is a plus!!

Read this:

http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20486

Specifically the section towards the bottom titled "Commentary on rod knock after a Head Gasket swap"

It may help explain a few things, including why your supposition about the source of the rust is likely wrong.

+1...my Mk3 had a BHG maybe 6 months before I bought it, well 45 mins into the drive home from picking it up it developed a nasty knock. Anytime moisture comes into contact with your bearings, it's a ticking time bomb.
