Pinks! (was?) looking for an MKIII

suprarcr89

The Juggernaut has my old
why doesnt someone with a high horsepower mkIII go for it. I would love to see a mkIII on there. maybe then mkIV owners would give the respect back to the mkIII. the ricers have made a bad name for japans true sports cars with there little sport compacts when it comes to the domestic world although alot of domestic people give the supra some respect has i have seen on the mustang forums I go on. good luck to whoever does this or if you all get one built.

I could prolly put together a low 9 high 8 second drag MKII for less than $6k
out of my pocket. I just don't have an extra $6k.

Yeah, you'll need to build up a car like that. You will be going up against other 8-9second sandbaggers. PINKS asks for mid 10 second cars, but much faster cars answer the calling.

wow you guys are all dreaming more than i was. wasting money donating parts for an mkiii is really pointless.. it's just not the best platform if you dont have tens of thousands of dollars.

let me repeat this in another way:
No car that will agree to race on that show would lose to an mkiii with anything less than $5k put into the engine alone.

most of the cars are like 10-11 second beasts

just get a parts pool going.

If everyone on this site makes a part donation of some sort, we could build a pretty badass car. Not only could it go on pinks, this car could represent the mk3 community at shows, race events, and general car stuff.

That being said, I have a good 7m cylinder head, and cams. I also have a bunch of other nic-naks that I could give up.

WOW I love how when I real challenge is put down a lot of people wanna try and then a select few recent posters decided to not only give up, but then to go as far as to claim the mk3 is a POS that can't hang with any decent drag cars, and I thought the supra community (mk2, mk3, and mk4) was all about power, performance, and 1/4 mile demolishing, if this isn't so what are we into then, we can't canyon cut all that well, drifting is uber lame, its a sad sad day, shame on the nay sayers and props to all who have offered up ideas, optimism, and a set of balls too.

Lemme give you guys a hint. They aren't really racing for pinks. It's a TV show.

I've got some parts of the London bridge I wanna sell some of you guys...

I also have a body shell..... minus the front cap. Its already pretty much a stripped N/A, all the suspension is still under it though. It needs a front end, dash, seats, wheels/tires, and a 500+rwhp 7m... Oh yeah, and a diff.

a) yes you do really race for pinks but most/all people decide to sell the car back to the person. I'm pretty sure if you wanted to be a dick you could keep it... but after all that i'm pretty syure you'd be willign to sell it back for a grand or two.

b) im not nay saying the mkiii at all. it is an amazing platform capable of amazing things. but on a budget, it will not make it on that show and be succesfull. sure.. you guys have spare parts lying around.. hell i have a whole car i could donate.. but that gets us nowhere but where we started: with a bunch of parts that arent on an assembled car for a reason; they're crap. if you know of someone whos willing to donate a freshly built, ported and polished head with cams.. or a block with fresh pistons, bearings etc... well then i would put time, money and parts into this project as well. the facts of the matter are, though, that anything anybody is willing to donate will still need to be addressed appropriately... and who's going to foot the bill?

I'm personally thrilled about the idea of a group mkiii going on pinks.. i just think a more realistic option is an mkii.

If there is enough REAL interest (serious monetary donations - into the thousands of dollars) and people are willign to give up perfectly good parts (and i do mean perfectly good). i will help out in anyway i can.

I think it would be cool if titan motorsports, horsepower freaks or WOTM built an mk3 or helped build an mk3, they are some of the top shops for the supra community, titan built a scion tc, celica, and several supra drag cars and I'd like to see what they could do with an mk3, one of thier employees had an mk3 i looked at when i took tour of thier shop in 05 in orlando, it was an 88 with a 2JZ-GTE swapped in, pretty badass really.

Your right though if we did a group build or someone built a car to go on new pistons, rings, bearings, rods, and tons of maching would be needed for longivity and big HP.

A few people mentioned getting respect from some of the mk4 crowd, well then challenge an mk4 with an mk3, if they have nearly the same hp the mk3 will win, the 6 speeds just don't run good times unless they have over 900 hp, however a 700 or 800 mk3 can run a better time, and hey we wouldn't be selling them back thier mk4 either, LOL.

haha true enough!! but it's all talk until you have a donated 500+hp 7m on a pallet in your driveway.. but i agree, a shop should step up and do this.. if they got enough recognition it could really boost aftermarket parts demand

So how many square feet can I sign you up for? I'm guessin at least acouple dozen yards.

As per the people that have actualy been on the show and posted about it on forums, no they are not really racing for slips. Say it with me now, "it's just TV." Star Trek isn't real either...

well.. ui also read first hand.. and the guy with the T/A who beat the civic said he decided to sell it back to the kid cause he felt bad, but made it worth the win... so unless he was trying to cover up the lies for the producers i dunno... i'm pretty sure they legally do sign over the pinks.

Yea and the egghead Rich or whatever his name is owns them both until someone wins. After thinking that they were gonna be on the show, I started to wonder if a whole bunch of kids will start buying them just because they can be fast and easy to buy.

That show was outed a long time ago on the various civic boards. The contestants are required to sign an NDA so of course they will say it's real. But honda boys being the usual rocket surgeons they are, broke the NDA and spilled the beans. Of course they got nailed pretty bad for it, haha. The show is completely fake, almost none of the horsepower numbers are real, the races are staged, and no one loses their "pinks."
