Copper plugs were around before platinum and iridiums were ever dreamed of. Some of those cars you listed probably had coppers in them and you didn't even know :biglaugh:
That said:
Fully rebuilt bottom end to TSRM spec:
Balanced rods, shot peened.
New pistons (oversize to the next largest up from stock size that you can get according to what your machinist will tell you that you need.
NDC bearings.
New oil pump, shimmed relief by 5mm.
New water pump.
All new belts, hoses, etc.
Oil cooler kit that replaces the stock oil filter unit (read: more oil pressure)
If running stock type pistons (not forged), composite head gasket.
If forged pistons, MHG. Prep accordingly the head AND block (read: proper RA specs for both)
Fully rebuilt head:
Ensure cam saddles (some call them cam "bearings") are in spec per TSRM
SBC valve spring upgrade (cheaper than new OEM springs and better)
New valve seals, and valve job (3 angle, no more)
New valves.
Mild PNP.
Helicoil the exhaust studs (you'll need this, driftmotion.com sells a kit for this).
Fuel:
Lexus AFM coupled with 550cc or larger fuel injectors.
Hi-flowing fuel pump (walbro will work, get a real one not from ebay).
Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator kit for the MKIII
J-tube bypass.
New fuel filter installed.
Your choice of a fuel triming device (SAFC, etc.)
Bolt-ons:
Full 3" turbo back exhaust.
Upgraded CT-26 turbo (no larger than 57 trim if you want it to last).
2.5" hard pipes.
Spearco style replica FMIC.
You choice of a bypass valve.
Electronic boost controller of you choice.
Brakes:
ARZ big brake kit for the front tires.
New rotor and semi-race pads for the rears.
SS brake lines.

Drag radials of your choice.
