alright so i finally caught up in the messages and im kind of sad:( But I have one question... With such little knowledge about this vehicle how can you correctly state that nothing fits you better than a supra? Okay.. a little more.. I would like to know if you have ever driven a car with 600 hp, What you want this kind of horsepower for?? And i know i have a low status on this site and such but i can tell which people have important information for you such as I.J. and figgie etc... and i would suggest veering away from any smart a$$ comments with them :icon_bigg

Keep posting inane bullshit and your fun will stop......

I can't argue with "Grumpy Old Fart" as it's only descriptive and accurate.

Where the danger lies is some our our more impressionable youngsters that aren't that bright read your post and take it to heart then go out and drive like morons.

If they top em selves fine so be it but most times they take innocent people with em and this in turn makes the rest of our live miserable as the cops then target our type of car.

THINK BEFORE YOU POST.

ive owned a vw jetta, 3 acura integras, 2 honda civics, a trailblazer, an eclipse, and 3 supras. the only car i really felt comfortable in was the supras. i got rid of my turbo supra because i blew the motor racing a 700 horsepower mustang (i was running in the mid 300's lol), i got rid of one NA because i needed the money in an emergency, and i got rid of my last NA because i was hospitalized and my car was parked in a red zone when the ambulance came and picked me up. once i got out of the hospital, the tow yard had already sold my car.

i havent driven a high horsepower supra, but i have driven a corvette z06. that gets the adrenaline flowing lol

alright enough of this bullshit. I was being real nice yesterday but today......

I am adopting IJ. title "Gurmpy middle aged fart"

suprastroker

so far especially with the spark plugs questions, all I see is dreaming and nothing else. Dreaming is ok but when you start to consume this forums time on idiocies that can literally be researched until your brain explodes, then you start being a pain in the ass.

I wrote the brain hurt statement yesterday for a good reason. You didn't even know where to purchase a simple maintanance item but yet we are to believe you have owned 12 cars which were in some shape of running order?

Yeah i am going to call bullshit.

You have even had some of the newer folks that have done build ups, be so kind and nice and post pdf, attachments of how much thier build cost, and yet you are jibby jabbing away on this thread about whatever you think you know.

Don't start off on the wrong foot (you are heading that way quite quickly). You won't like how things progress if you do.

I know where to get most things. The spark plug thing....Ive never heard of copper spark plugs, so I asked where to get them. I know of alot of parts and stuff but I dont know of some specifics, so I ask plenty of questions. Ive small car projects in the past, but nothing too big. I'm making plans to make a big project out of this car. But first, I need tips from the experienced so I know I do it right because I dont want to back-track. Ive got pages and pages of parts and ideas, but unless I know I'm on the right track, Im not buying anything. As alot of you say, why buy stuff that I dont really need?

How did you get that supra of yours running in the mid 300s? k so perfect example, The Corvette Z06. I believe you said you wanted to run about 12 sec? Well this runs 12.00@ 120.9mph. Later I saw you wanted to reach 600hp. Well the Vette runs 505hp/470 lb. ft. of torque. The reason i bring this up is because this is a brand new car with every bit of technology to make these kinds of speeds "safer." abs/tc and suspension tuned to the cars weight for example.
I would say this project of yours is gonna take a while. I havent seen any posts about what kind of traction control your gonna use to keep yourself from going ass over tea kettle yet. Also What are your plans as far as slowing down? Do some research on these questions and tell us what you think.

In before the lock, I can't believe I just read all 9 pages of this. Several good post have been laid down to help the OP. Up to him to pick them up. Where is that deadhorse smile again?

this thread turned to shit. This kid has this fantasy that 12's are as obtainable as reliable 13.5's in a 3800lb usually 2nd half track car. He wont listen to the wisdom of some of the most seasoned and knowledgeable members here. I think its time to let this thread go off to pasture and allow him to re-read my last post.

Kid. you need to research and learn.

hey i know you're new, and youre trying to figure out what you need to do to reach your goals. Here's my suggestion. Learn by experience. Drive the car as is and fix it up little by little as you can. As you have time and money, do small mods in steps by researching as you go. Learn the motor and the car in and out as many of us have by 1. working on it, and 2. spending a lot of time here on the forums reading about what other people are doing/have done. These are old cars and are very finnicky, but they can be pretty damn fast. They're still REALLY fun to own and drive at moderate power levels.

Owning this car and making it something really fast will take alot of time, money, patience, planning, and research. I know your intent is to learn, but 1 thread you made isnt gonna do much at all. Spend some time here and learn as you go. No person on this site has taken a supra from nothing to a reliable and very fast and powerful car in just a couple months with like 3000-5000 bucks. It just wont happen.

We'd all like you to have a great car, but dont rush it.

You know youre a noob, we know youre a noob. Only way to solve it is to learn and denoobify yourself.

Good luck,
-Ryan

Suprastroker - Here is some insite for you. Some of the people your are chosing to pick a fight with, I wouldn't do that if I were you. Trust me I tryed before and LOST. Now, I have nothing but utmost respect for them:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:. They have a wealth of knowledge & information and if you need help some day (like figuring out what a copper spark plug is), they now might chose not to share it with you, because of this and your ignorance.

BTW the PDF file I can read just fine. The only thing you need to read on it was the $6,000 bill for the build.

that PDF was wonderful, but $325 for ARP main and head studs? $506 for eagle rods? $114 for the tensioner idler? no offense, but some of those prices are a little more then just on the high side.... But it was Cadman's money, he can spend it how he wants. and as long as hes happy with what he got, thats what counts.

Copper plugs were around before platinum and iridiums were ever dreamed of. Some of those cars you listed probably had coppers in them and you didn't even know :biglaugh:

New water pump.
All new belts, hoses, etc.
Oil cooler kit that replaces the stock oil filter unit (read: more oil pressure)
If running stock type pistons (not forged), composite head gasket.
If forged pistons, MHG. Prep accordingly the head AND block (read: proper RA specs for both)

Fully rebuilt head:

Ensure cam saddles (some call them cam "bearings") are in spec per TSRM
SBC valve spring upgrade (cheaper than new OEM springs and better)

ALL that and he has gotten nowhere. I can only imagine that he has not even thought about the tranny. Get in the 12s with a stock auto if you can. might make a half pass. if its a manual burn it up a few times then park it and start over. Money is not free. At least not for me.
