Heh - fans are only needed if you have a crappy cooling system - i only have 2x80mm case fans (one in, one out) and they're almost silent. The loudest thing i have is the Zalman, but even that can be turned down with the aid of the fan controller....

As for the Powerbook...well...sell it and buy something decent ;)

1 120mm in, 1 120mm out, and a 300 or something mm fan also as an intake (Chakra case)

Big Typoon 120mm for the heatsink as well. With the fan controllers on 'auto' everything is very quiet!

I just got me a new desktop pc, looks like when i get it how i want it, ill overclock it a little. Ive always had a problem with heat, when i overclock so i can never push it like it could be pushed. Last time i did it i took a pentium 2.8 and overclocked it to 3.2, it was stable, any more than this and pc would crash hard

mines not quiet, but i dont care really. 4 120mm fans and 1 200mm fan (antec 900 case). my heatsink fan is the loudest though.. high speed panaflo 92mm on my ultima 90.. its like 40-45 db or something but moves like 70cfm

I thought my setup was fairly cheap. Yea I could of went with a dual core or a cheaper mobo (i have abit ip35pro) but oh well. I'll use the quad on movie stuff and i like the features the abit offered. All in all I spent a little over 1k on my setup. (including new sata hd and sata dvd drive, case, etc) I figure itll be good for at least a year+ (maybe upgrade the video card in a year) or at least i hope. hahah..

How can I overclock my computer? Its not the best or anything but I have NO clue how to do this but want a little more performance for COD4.

AMD 64 3000+ (1.8)
sapphire x800pro
1 gig pc3200

I would mainly like to overlock my cpu. I have two fans on the side of my case and a LARGE fan on my CPU. Sounds like a vacuum cleaner. I bought it because it was rated at like.. one of the highest amount of CFM's it could move or something. LOL.

I had my old rig with a 2.8ghz Prescott P4 running at 4ghz before.. until my motherboard died [after 3 months, the cpu capacitors burned out]

That was a sweet rig, went with a Athlon 64 after that for a while. Now im running a x2 4400+ now, havent needed to overclock yet.

Doward = same mindset as me

SOTA is retardedly expensive and not worth the money when it's gonna be half price in 6 months...

AMD Duron 1.4Ghz OCed to 2Ghz. I can OC the vid card and the CPU more, but it's pointless as I'm RAM bottlenecked with only 512MB's...

RAM doesn't OC well and speeds aren't as important in RAM, it's the amount not the speed that matters mostly. THe rest you can OC the piss out of if you can keep it cool (swiftech cooler here, but I couldn't stand the hair dryer I mean DELTA fan...)

Cooling is key and a million 60's aren't going to do anything but cause turbulance and tons of noise, just one good 120MM fan can do TONS of cooling if put in the right place...

I've never been state of the badass art, but i havent been too far behind - ie, my purchase of the 8800GT and the 4gb mem kit....but thats more for the 'i'll need that in a month or so' factor rather than just the bragging rights.

I do *need* a quad core though, although i'll be getting a Q6600 or Q6700 as soon as possible (better multipliers than the new 9xxx series)...
