Operation "Can't hear shit" *Pics*

Thanks for resurrecting this thread. It seems like a lot of people want to do, or are doing this. I am, too. I remember when I purchased my seats and six-point harnesses that the only belts I could get that were DOT approved where available only from Germany. In addition, the harness bar is clearly marked "not for street use", so even with DOT belts, the bar may make it illegal. Not that it's going to change my decision to use; but, definitely a consideration. Get stopped by the police, you know what to worry about :)

This thread was a fun read... both times, three months ago before I started the dying, and today, now that the dying is finished. My dash is out, and I've been eyeing removing that rusty brace and painting. After reading another thread here, I decided that $1400, or that amount of my own labor, was way too much to pay for a heater core... so I've bought the heater core, and that brace just "has" to come out now.

Thanks for the inspiration, pictures and descriptions. See you around the forums.

What did you use do dye your interior? Did you do the carpets as well? I had less than favorable results when I painted the rear head liner (behind targa) with the automagic. It looks fine but has a very "hard" feel to it. I was thinking of dipping and soaking the trunk carpet in black dye rather than painting it or using new black carpet. I saw a post on here not too long ago where a member did it with surprisingly good results.

I also noticed that the black shade was noticeably different between the center console and the dash. You can tell if you look at my pics where they meet. Perhaps I didn't shake the one of the automagic cans properly or it was a bad batch, but the center console was definitely darker. I have since blended the two into one another with a new can of paint and now they match perfectly. I'll have to post up a pic if I can find one. Currently my Supra is 10hrs away getting "fine tuned".

Yeah I just dyed my hatch carpet and I really wish I had dyed the carpet up front. I just used two bottles Rit dye and filled the rest of the bucket with warm water. I kept moving it so as to get it all even. I let it sit for 3 days and it turned out pretty well

Duplicolor "Vinyl and Fabric", from the paint section at Autozone, $7.49 a can... when purchased three cans at the time each purchase "qualifies" with a membership card - and five qualifying purchases within a year nets a $20 gift certificate... basically, a 20% discount. I figure I used 18 to 21 cans to do everything except the headliner. That's 120 to 140 dollars, not counting the certificate, so $100. Not cheap. I still think it was worth it.

I heard a better way to do the headliner is to use black shoe dye and just soak it into the foam

I used shoe dye to touch up some of the faded leather panels. I can't imagine having good results pressing that into the headliner as it would be near impossible to not have varying shades of darkness across the surface. Even on the leather I had to buff it in once applied in order to blend. I guess if you really soak it in it may work. Other than the feel of my rear liner, the look came out great with the Automagic vinyl dye.

Oooh, thread resurrection. Interior's going 5 years strong now with no chipping or peeling. Spent a lot of that time parked outside too. Here's the latest interior update for anyone who cares. Finally installed my powder coated TMS harness bar.

The Corbeau 3 point retractable harnesses sit so much better than before.

Looked through this thread and realized I forgot to post that I went full standalone a couple of years ago.

Switched Prosport gauges to AEM Serial and Wideband.

Pulled VPC and and Boost Controller, fabbed cover under radio and switch the Beech Short Shifter to the much improved SSV3.

Located AEM v1 EMS in factory location.

What was some of the improvements you noticed over VPC vs standalone.

Your interior looks great. Glad to here it is holding up good.

Did the seatbelt bar improve the stiffness of the car?

Thanks.

Everything. Power, drivability, reliability, adjustability, expansion capabilites, fuel economy, throttle response, idle etc. Only real downside is that I don't know how to tune it myself. So if I move to a different elevation or change my setup, my tune shifts and I need to drop another few hundred bones to get it fine tuned. That and the $3000+ it cost me to get it in the first place.

Only notice improvement around corners with the targa off.
