im sorry but a 400k plus supra will not save Toyota in this economy if they bring back a rwd sports car it should cost around 17k depending on options to compete other wise were all just dreaming of a car that will sit on are walls rather then are drive ways

A Honda Fit costs more than that...

The bought the rights to the "Supra" name a year or two ago. so they obviously have something planned.. i just hope its not a powerless econobox...

If the car ended up being the price of the Corvette and could beat it even by a small amount, it would probably restore their claim to fame. The LF-As pricetag garnered pretty harsh reviews from most critics, yet despite that they all still said it really is a fantastic car with a lot of cutting edge technology.

Why on earth are you guys trying to compare it to a Corvette? The Corvette isn't the same class as the Supra at all. While the Corvette is a giant killer, it's not nearly as refined as it's betters, and the Supra was always about refinement.

I'll just say this, look where 'refinement' landed the IS-F.. I'm just not very confident Toyota can manage performance and refinement anymore without an insane price tag. Folks can argue it all day, and it was/is a super nice car, but it's not really that special.

Because that's the price range it's been in. The Supra has never been able to compete against the Mustang / Camaro because it's a crapload more coin.

So far as I can remember, the Supra was more expensive than the vette, especially the MKIV. My main point was the Corvette is a pretty low bar in it's category, at least price and quality wise. Sure, it's performance is great, but it's not nearly as well made.

If and if a MKV comes out i guestimate its price range to be 55-70K base and 70+ with butt load of other options or a super edition. But i care not for what they come up with because it'll be more then i can afford or want to spend on another toy. That will only change if its visual and performance is so great that i must have it LOL

With Hiromu Naruse gone idk if Toyota can even make a sports car anymore. The guy helped design EVERY toyota sports car.

....And if they do it will be a scion or lexus.

Man, I dunno why you guys are talking about such low numbers. The MKIII was stacked against cars like the Porsche 944, while the MKIV was stacked against 911's IIRC. Go look at the price of a 911 ;)

Agreed. I'd be really surprised if it were under 100k. Consider this:

Mk2 was ~17k in 1985
Mk3 was ~29k in 1989
Mk4 was ~51k in 1995

Just adjusting for inflation, that makes it:

Mk2 is ~35k today
Mk3 is ~51k today
Mk4 is ~73k today

So logically, they've boosted the price by ~44% each time they released a new model, and $73k + 44% is $105,430. That's the bare minimum price I'd expect, and somehow I suspect it would be even higher than that.

100% agreed
I suspect it will be under the Toyota Name but i think they are searching for a answer to the GTR imo

You know, I think the ZR1 would be a nice target for a potential Mk5 Supra, both in price and quality. If they cleared the 130k mark with it though, I doubt many people would jump on it, even among the Supra faithful. It's just a different world out there, you know? Not to mention, every succeeding generation of Supra has offered performance a good leap beyond what the prior generation did. The Mk4 isn't a slouch, even by today's standards.

Concerning Jalopnik's recent post on a new rendered concept, I like it, but the girlfriend, not so much... Makes ya wonder though, BMW is talking about going V6 in the M3, Nissan already did for the GTR, would a new Supra be a V6?

BMW is talking about going V6 in the M3

But they already went V8 with that....

would a new Supra be a V6?

I'm pretty sure Toyota doesn't use any I6's in any of their platforms anymore and haven't for at least 5 or 6 years now if I'm not mistaken (ended with the IS300 2JZ-GE?). I would guess either V6 or V8. Maybe grab the engine out of the IS-F, but I don't see how that would fill the hole more than just making a 2 door IS-F (sporty grand touring vehicle).
