hey... im also having trouble w/ my dome/map/reading lights overhead. ALL my other lights work fine though. the Puddle lights on the doors, the key tumbler light on the Driver's key hole, Driver foot well, IGN courtesy light, Boot light... i havent checked the passenger vantiy mirror light. but i have no luck with the overhead lights. my door-open switches work mostly, the driver's all the time, the passenger i have to fiddle with to get a good ground. once it makes continuity, the door ajar light on the dash lights up as well as the puddle minder lights on the doors them selves.

so considering i have power to EVERY other light on the "DOME" circuit, my fuse is obviously fine. so i guess i should either look to the Integration relay, the big long guy... or what, the ground under my Overhead/dome lights? i did a full interior swap from maroon to gray so those parts were R&R'd and i was sure to tighten up the screws sufficiently.

i dont get it though, those lights WERE working after the interior swap and i changed nothing else on the car. its just these lights and the fogs that give me trouble...

did ya find the prob?

with my mums car it turned out to be the integration relay somewhere, i traced each wire individually to find out where on the other side power stopped, i then tapped from that same source which fed another wire which still had power so i tapped it and walah dome lights back. Odd, they used to work but just suddenly stopped, reason unsure... solution found... yes! hehe

yeah... i think so. i have a ground thru the Integration relay. but even the Dome light override buttons wont turn on the lights. the buttons on the dome light override have a direct path to chassis ground via 2 of the 3 phillips screws that hold the Dome light assy to the car. i had 12v on both side of the Dome light plug (because the "ground" is a common ground with other lights in the car. the dome light employs Diodes on the ground path of the Door-ajar function so power doesnt come in both sides of the light bulbs.

on the terminals of the buttons them selves, the lead to the phillips screw had continuity. however, the lead coming from the bulb would have intermittent continuity to the ground screw/ground lead on the button whenever the button was touched. the path to ground via the Dome override buttons from the bulb would be anywhere from 60ohms, to 330ohms to Wide open/no contact. i think the contacts in my dome override buttons are boned.

i think its just the buttons and switch itself are messed up... i hope. i dont wanna have to change the relay. according to the TEWD, the Dome lights share the same internal (inside the Int relay) path to ground as the Ign key cyl light, Step light, and Door key cyl light. and all those work fine in my car. so that means the path to ground for those lights that the Int relay is providing should also be sufficient for the Dome lights, right?

that relay that you speak of is another integration relay...in other words it's a bunch of smaller relays in one.

it's also a total NIGHTMARE to get out as it's on the BACK of the fuse panel...

jump the buttons on the map lights and see if it's just bad contacts, if not, that relay sucks and I've replaced it with one off a part's car, and still have intermitant problems, opened it up and there is a resistor that is fryed in both...gotta replace but it's another $100 for a brand new one, and find the proper resistor is a tough task...

well, you got me wondering if i was testing the wrong thing or tested it the wrong way. so i took my dome light back out to the car to plug it in and see if it would work, hot-wired like you said. so, i checked the plug, w/ the door open. i have 12.1v w/ the car off, door open, on the Red wire to the chassis. i have 0.3v on the brown wire to chassis. so i have power and ground. i just plugged in the dome light to start testing how far the power goes before it doesnt work anymore.

it lit up. weird! it didnt before. so i started to push it back up into the headliner to screw it back in and i forgot to put insulation on the 2 diodes since i removed it to test them. i unplugged it, put insul. on them, then taped it up, screwed the switchboard to the plastic housing and got it ready to mount in the car. i plugged the harness back in, no light. WTF!!! i let the dome light dangle from the harness as i reached for the DVM and it lit back up... omg, is it really this simple? the damn rivited contacts that pass from the male spades into the traces inside the dome light are loose. as ghetto as it sounds, i shimmed the plug to simulate the tension placed on the pins like it would if it were hanging loosely from the wires. dome lights all work, door ajar, dome override and everything. so i screwed it back in and put the cover on.

all is well in my car now, thanks to a Taco-Bell straw.
