Cos we're NOT gay ;)

Just kidding I'd say Diff gears have a lot to do with it and we can use less throttle % for the same speeds.
yea, IJ is right, right now ive still got the old 4.30 from when mine was an NA in... my gas mileage is horrible on the highway

When my dad had his 88T the average was about 400 to the tank. (That's with me driving it as well) That was with intake/exhaust(3in)/boost controller

On the freeway it was slightly higher.

My 89T gets SHIT for mileage. Always has anyway. I'm talking like 13 or so.

Yep it'll be a little sluggish off the line but will drop the engine speed at cruise.

Keep in mind if you rush it accelerating you're going to burn up and fuel savings from cruise of course!

I wonder why turbo guys effortlessly get good gas mileage. Maybe it IS the exhaust?
that's BS! i don't get good gas mileage. but i'm not really complaining. i want the 3.73 diff though, I'm currently running the 3.91. i don't think my W58 is helping much either vs the R154. In 5th gear my tach needle matches my speedo needle :(

Well I remember my friends saying when he removed the silencer on his exhaust he got better fuel economy :p

Anyways, I could probably get more mileage out of my car if I didn't cruise with the windows all the way down a lot, and maybe did a little lighter pedal work, so about a 20-21 mpg average (between city/hwy) isn't too bad.

Just got 18 city :). Mostly with window down.
Yay, and mpg should be going down, cause we found out that we were running a bit rich.

The only thing about that that surprises me is that the difference was apparently big enough for him to mention. A restricted exhaust requires the engine to work harder as it has to push the exhaust all the way. You can actually test to see if your exhaust is causing problems due to unwanted back pressure....

THAT'S RIGHT! BACK PRESSURE = BAD! (just a reminder) :naughty:

My grey 89 GE was getting 23-24 ish. My 86.5 GTE with swapped 3.91 diff and 3" exhaust is getting around 25 mpg on the highway, and that was with some city driving as well. I can get well over 300 miles on a tank but I never let it go below a half so couldn't tell you for sure.

Maybe I'll go 2.5 or 3 inch instead of my 2.25 inch piping right now....too bad it will be loud.

Ent: Sorry I just can't see a 2.25 system being at all restrictive at cruise so don't understand how it's going to improve economy.

As for a low restriction exhaust contributing to GTE economy you're forgetting we have that HUGE restriction on the end of the header (have a look at the nozzle area in a turbo them compare that to a piece of 2.25 pipe)

Good points. I guess what you originally said is true.

So I guess Turbo >>> N/A in almost everything (if not everything)
