My friend loves DSM's, he is frequently on team2g.com i think?...coulda been from there. but yea thats funny about the "small turbo and IC" thing, I test drove a talon TSi and I thought the IC was a joke from the ricer who had it. They're about 10 inches wide and 8 inches tall, I couldn't even find the Turbo at first and he knocks the full front mount and CT-26 we have... :biglaugh:

Show me a DSM making over 350whp on a stock turbo. Show me a DSM with a modified stock turbo making over 400whp...

*crickets*

btw, our stock IC is the size of some civic radiators.

Actually the CT26 is a tad larger than the GN's turbo(ive measured), the GNX had an upgraded turbo not unlike the turbo A turbo offered for mk3's, but t-types and regular GN's have a slightly smaller turbo than the stock Ct26. now the question would be which is better the 87' GN T3 or the Turbo A Ct26.

there is a magazine, the GNX was supplied with a Garret T3 turbo, and maxed out at 15psi, the same as the ct26.

you gotta love stupid people, ya the 7M has the HG issue, but once you get that fixed its a damn good platform, the DSM is pretty much for a lack of better words......a piece. i work on and off at a shop nearby that does mainly DSM's and Evo VIII's, and they are not cheap to get reliable horsepower out of, the main things i see up there with them is if they arent blowing something with the drivetrain (i.e. the trans or transfer case) they are crankwalking, the owner of the shop has a 600hp Evo and he even hates the 1st and 2nd gen DSM motor, just cuz he has to build them so often cuz they blow after a lil while of gettin boost happy.

also as an example they had a built motor 1st gen up there with a clipped and ported Evo 8 16g turbo running 17psi and it put down...............340awhp......that was it

IMHO......MKIII > DSM

Diamond Star Motors. the Mistubishi star. and chrysler bought some cars from mitsu and rebadged them as Chryslers.... D50 pickup truck is a Mitsu Mighty max, the eagle talon is a eclipse and the dodge stealth is a 3000GT.

I know two guys in my area who spent over $3k on transmissions because the awd does not hold the extra modding to well. I think I could buy an MK3 for that and drive it for a few years.

Actually all true DSMs were built in North America, not just provided by Mitsu and rebadged. However the term has grown to encompass quite a bit more cars then originally intended.

Doesn't really matter, they obviously have their heads up their asses over their.

I may just be ignorant to the subject, or just new... but aren't those cars all just the most unreliable peice of crap in the world? Im in a stock NA, and I havent lost to any of them, although im yet to come up to much of a challenge, but I beat an talon with a big intercooler sticking out the front...

DSM's have cheapest interior parts of all the cars I have owned. The stock turbo is so small you won't even notice it the first time you look under it's hood unless someone points it out. And the stock intercooler? A joke. As far as reliability, my 97 gs-t spyder hasn't given me as much problems as my two supras, but my supras are at least twice as old as it, so can't blame them. Mitsu quality sucks when compared to the quality of a toyota.

word! i worked at toyota of glendale and noticed that everytime mitsubishi sells a car...they announce it over the loudspeaker (they're right across the street)...and about 90% of the time..they were used cars....at toyota mitsubishi...there is more used cars than new...and mitsu's re-sale value sucks...my 86.5 N/A with 200+mi hasnt even given me that much problems....i see dsm's in shops getting repaired ALL the time

Well, I would sign up and speak my mind, but that site that the info came from is fucked up.
They have too many rules. To sign up, you need an email address that you pay for, I.E. Comcast, Verizon DSL, those ones you pay monthly for.

Basically, it's not worth commenting on over there. Let them think what they want.

Didn't read all the posts but...
Show me another car from 1987 with coil packs! The Supra is just a more expensive car period. No wonder it will cost more to take care of and maintain.

Well, my roommate drives one, and I have to admit it's a beast. He has the older FWD version with popup headlights... it runs 12.0 at the track. Admittedly, he's broken a fair number of parts, but then, show me a low 12 second car that hasn't, from any manufacturer.

We drove to and from SupraFest last year in it, he didn't have any problems keeping up with Duane, Don, and Randy... and they are all pushing some big numbers in their Supras.

That said, I still like my Supra a whole lot more. :)

Believe it or not the DSM side mount intercooler is just a hair less efficient than ours. They have tried for years to use our front mounts as an upgraded but failed. There just isn't a significant performance increase. Instead they use the MK4 stock side mount as an upgrade.

hmmmm interesting...i have never had the chance to measure the grand national stuff ....got any actual numbers for things? maybe it was the gnx turbo that was considered "production" while the turbo A ones were not..... so it would be the normal ct26 versus the upgraded gnx turbo you speak of....
