The AEM meth kit seems like a great setup, and is well made. When this system is on and ready, you can hear a slight hum from the pump, so I think it is keeping the line primed and ready with some pressure against the check valve. When I put pressure to the boost sensor, the fluid sprays extremely fast, virtually no delay, which is great for my fast spooling turbo.

I've been boosting so much over the last couple of nights that I ran out of fluid and it was nice to have it automatically default to my wastegate spring of 10psi. I highly recommend getting a larger tank than what comes with the kit, if you do a lot of boosting. Between drag racing and some lively street driving I used 1.5 gallons of fluid per 1/2 a tank of gas.

And yes, boosting with the 50/50 mix does cause an odd sweet windex/burnt honey kind of smell :biglaugh:

I've been following this thread for a while now and am really interested in putting some meth on my 1j, I have and AEM Ems and was wondering how I should go about hooking this up? I was going to build my own tank and was wondering if I should just buy the pump, and the flow sensor? And the nozzle? Is there anything else? And what size line do you use?

I've read that some tuners like to have the meth spray come on full blast instantly at some point in the tuning map, and then it is tuned around that.

For simplicity, you could still run the progressive controller that comes with the AEM kit. I found that the biggest nozzle at full spray only made the A/F ratio richer by about 1.0, so you don't have to pull huge amounts of fuel when the 50/50 is spraying. Plus the controller does all the thinking and failsafes for you, if you want progressive spray vs boost level.

Have you tried strait water? Im curious how that effects the af ratio as well.

Awesome results!

Brad, which nozzle are you using? I was using the 625 but we couldn't tune the richness out of it consistently. I switched to the 375 and it was a little easier to tune it. I'm only running 22psi of boost so I think that this is still plenty of boost juice to keep me from detonating. The knock detector I bought doesn't pick up much knock at all while dynoing.

Probably not Ian, since I don't know what that is.

All I have is a green light that comes on when the pump is on. I also have a solenoid hooked up in line.

Should be able to juggle the tune to make the 625 useable then J, I was running 600cc in mine no probs at all starting at 50% duty @4000 then
70@4500
85@5000
85@5500
80@6000
80@6500
70@7000
70@7500

This allowed the maximum boost on pump with the maximun timing and no hint of detonation and didn't require pulling a lot of fuel from the main table to keep reasonable AFR's.

I've still got to do some more tuning once I get my clutch broke in. Hopefully it will go a little better this time. I got a larger rear housing for my pt67. The .68 was just too restrictive. I have a .81 now and I'm going to be installing my four inch exhaust.

Damnit man!!!!!!!!!! It took me three weeks to get this housing. I'll have to see what I can do with it, but thanks for the advice Ian.

The AEM control module does all the PWMing and progressive control and I'm running the largest jet in the kit which is 550ml/mn. Even with spray starting at 5psi and full by 12psi, the engine runs great and has not had any misfire at all.

J: the dyno shop seemed to think that the larger jet was important to use on my 3.0L for safety. They also noticed ping at 24psi on the stock ECU timing map with full spray on my car, so I'm at the limits already, possibly because the stock map is too aggressive. I'm still budgeting for a standalone!

How high are you revving? I find my .84 T4 housing ideal for my current setup. My powerband is solid between 3800-6200, and I'm always in that range when I shift gears around 5900.

Grim: water would not affect the A/F ratio, but still offer cooling, allowing higher boost.

I usually rev to about 7500rpm Brad. I had the larger nozzle in but it was simply pushing tooo much meth. My car ran sooo rich that I couldn't lean it out. With the smaller nozzle I am running at 11.2 still. I didn't get a lot of tuning time last time, but I'm hoping for a few hours once I get the exhaust done. Right now, I'm still breaking in my clutch so I haven't even been boosting. I'll report back and let you guys know how it ends up.

What are you detecting knock with Brad?

Thanks for the offer Ian. Your knowledge and your generosity are very much appreciated.

Why couldn't you lean/tune out the larger nozzle?

I'm guessing that you might find a bit of top end choke with the .81, but most people feel that to go larger than that makes the lag far too much of a compromise. Only a small handful of guys like Ian and Geoff from Full Race prefer the huge housings to rev their brains out :)

ok, might be a stupid question, BUT ive done some reading about the meth injection and it makes me horny!!! Do i need to have an air/fuel setup to run the meth injection??? once again sorry for the stupid question but just wanna make sure i get everything.

well, i guess i should just ask what i DO need to have before meth injection??? I have an 88 gte, fresh headgasket with arp studs, full 3in exhaust with no cats. 2.5" hard intercooler pipes and am working on getting my osiris gauges installed (water temp, oil pressure and volt/turbo timer) so, is it ok to buy a kit and let er fly??? or will it be certain death???

I think you have the wrong idea of what Meth Injection is and does.

It's NOT a power adder as such on it's own, think of it more as cheap race gas on demand, this will give you a bigger safety margin if you leave your tune as is after you lean the fuel down to allow for the meth enrichment or it'll allow you to run more boost and timing for more total power at the same safety margin as you now have.

It's NOT like NoS.
