I've been pulled for running a "yield" sign, although I am sure that yield means you slow down look and go if it's clear, apparently I was wrong as I was pulled and cited for it, although the moron wrote me down as running a red signal, when there is nothing but a yield sign there, odd isn't it.

where I live they pull everyone over whose out past midnight, small town people think the sidewalks roll up at 10 on the weekends.

I have been pulled over 4 times in my 5 years of driving

72 in a 50... PBG (97 Honda Civic Auto)
60 in a 30... Warning (God I love the fact my Football Coach was also the Capitan of the local PD)
Running a Redlight (Realized the Judge LOVED those PADS (Parents Against Drunk Driving), which I took on my first ticket, so I used that as my defense to never speed again, and I didn't even run the redlight) Not Guilty
No front License Plate (Warning, he saw I was still on PBG so he gave me a non moving violation)

I guess I am lucky? Oh and those 4 tickets were all within my first 2 years, 97 Civic and 93 Probe GT... no tickets in my Max, the fastest of the 3 cars that actually has hit the road

I guess I am lucky?

Sorry IJ. I know I talk too much. I tried writing cliff notes in the past, but they turned out to be longer than the actual paragraph.... After talking to a friend of mine who's been in a heap of more trouble with the law, he said I might be better off lodging a complaint against the officer with his higher ups, and just taking traffic school. Would save me the point, but not the money. We'll see, I have plenty of time (so far) to prepare my case.

That's dumb that the cop started insulting you...that was totally inappropriate.

And I don't know about the whole "if you drive a nice car, you won't be stopped", because my mom drives an E46 BMW, and it looks perfect, and is 100% stock. And she has been pulled over 4 times in the last two years...Twice for speeding, and twice for going in the carpool lane...and I have only had one moving violation so far, and it was for speeding when I first started driving, in my NA Supra...I haven't had a ticket in this Supra in almost two years of driving it, (knock on wood, lol) and I speed CONSTANTLY...LOL. The only time I was stopped was for expired reg (when I first got the car, turned out to be a misunderstanding) and a modified exhaust warning in Cerritos (cop said it was too loud...).

well thats completley explainable.

First off, for the BMW. Woman driver. Says everything.

Second, for the Mk3. Cops notice that your car is non turbo, feel bad, and let you go.

it's elementery.

Hey Johnathan you're in Downey... I'm a couple cities over, Cerritos. Eh, it all depends on the cop, just like them mentally profiling the drivers on the road, we profile cops and group them into general categories not all them will fit into.

That same friend made an interesting point while I talked to him last night. He stated that the point of traffic laws today are revenue. Plain and simple. No matter how many times they shove the safety bit down our throats, they keep jacking up the fines and lowering the speed limits in the name of safety. Cars of today have gotten much safer and faster than they used to. Yet we still have many of the same speed limits of the 70's, some even going down. If cars are getting faster, as he puts it, the government makes it out so that those extra 10-20mph over the archaic limit equates you to a murderer. California especially has made driving your car practically illegal once you fire the engine :biglaugh:.

Nevermind the average freeway speed is 75 or 80+mph during off-peak hours and less than 20 on peak. By doing this, the system have put the role of the enforcer (officer) into a compromised state, making them the role of the judge jury and executioner. They pick and choose who's breaking the law, instead of catching everyone who is breaking it. I think this puts cops in an unfair position where they're forced to make a decision that they shouldn't be in the first place.

By the same token, some cops use this to their advantage, knowing they are covered by an inadequate law system that doesn't truly serve the needs of the people it was designed to protect. Just what I think about it anyway.

most traffic "laws" aren't laws at all so they can be fought and won pretty easily...

I got pulled over for passing in a no passing zone. The center stripes had been worn away from construction. Lawyer handled it, now there's fresh stripes and a sign that says no passing. (they just ate all the money they made from me for the fine)

get a lawyer and get advice from them, I got tons of tickets and none are on my record because of this...

long branch
In my black NA with a rather loud exhaust (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLFqR92VXvw),
I got pulled over all the time. Once they saw i was a white kid with no points(Oh i live in long branch, NJ, long story) they just let me off and say they pulled me over for some BS reason. either my inspection was getting close/old, or my one of 2 brake lights on one side were out, or my license plate was bent. I admire long branch cops though, they know who the real criminals are, because we have real crime in this city(not saying stuff about other cities, i wouldnt know) there not just out to make a buck for the city. Ive never even gotten a ticket here. Oceanport, shrewsbury, monmouth beach, surrounding rich towns, Ive gotten 1 or 2 or 3 tickets in each. And also, about the 22/lparents pay for stuff thing, Ive been on my own since i was 18. rent, insurance, phone, bills, etc. I wish i still lived with my parents, because now i cant goto school or do any of the stuff i wanted too because i have to work and im STILL going broke. My car is about to get repoed, so im actually looking into an NA again for a DD. Im sure lots of you know, but i wouldnt bust on him for that, it makes it much easier to get an education and improve your situation for yourself that way. I still wish i could!

Right now I'm considering my options. Whether to file a formal complaint or not? When to do it? If there is a time limit on it? I've been licensed since I was 16. I have one point on my record received about 2 years ago. I fought it in court, lost initially by declaration, then missed the re-trial date. I can count the number of tickets I've received on one hand since I was 16. Well, if I get another one, I'll need 2 hands. 2 for speeding, one parking ticket, this one, and one for breaking curfew (when I was 17). One speeding was dismissed. One was the one I lost by missing trial date. I intend to try a trial by declaration at first, if I lose that, then set an actual in-court date and eat the $110 court fee I know I'll be charged. I just want to file a complaint, but I want to wait until after the court dates and such but wonder if that's too long? Ehh, I don't think I'd have anything against the officer, even now, just want to let him know dude, that's not cool, it's almost akin to me calling you a poor wetback in a pig suit. See how that would hurt? Although that's probably a but more over the edge than how he berated me.

Every time i get pulled over, I'm completely honest..

I shut off my car, turn off my headlights (leave the parking lights on) and i put my keys on the dash and both hands on the wheel...

I don't do anything unless they tell me to, and I answer everything truthfully..

I've gotten out of tickets for loud exhaust, or taillights being out with sheer honesty (and a little help from SM on my sidekick)..

It just depends, if you're a smart mouth with a cop, chances are he'll be a dick to you, I know I would...

Edited a little.

The best thing to do when you get pulled over is to shut off your car and put your keys on the dash.

And i've found fudging the truth a little works the best.
