ok so me and hottscennessey have been talkin back and forth on pm so i figured i should probubley make a thread to display all the useful info we were talkin about... and at the same time make a build thread.

so heres a little history on my supra....

so i bought a 88 turbo auto targa with 64000 original miles for 1200 bucks back in april 07. i quickley started to strip it down to make it nice again.

so wile working on the appearance i also started on the motor (7m) i built it up with forged internals and everything unholy....

sm_photo_missing.jpg

ive had my 7m built and running with stock boost and fuel for a little less than 1500 miles now... and i found a smokin deal on a 2jzge had to take it. so now the 7m is out and the 2j is goin in just as soon as its cleaned up and got the thicker hg in it.

i still got a bunch of questions on this set up...

i guess ill just list them.. lol

- oil drain and feed for the turbo
-do i have to modify the 7m cps to fit?
- what coils can i use?
-how thick is the stock 2jzgte head gasket? is it thick enough to lower the compression good enough for 20- 25 psi?
-1jz flywheel?
-are arp head bolts/studs necessary?
-will rc 550's work with the stock ge fuel rail?

im sure i will have more questions as i go along with wiring and stuff...

thanks for the help!

Don't be afraid to pull that car into the garage! You will probably want to store at least some parts in your hatch. I'm lovin the wheels on there, and can't wait to watch this thing come together.

What are you doing with the old 7M, and what all do you have so far for the 2JZ? What are your power goals?

the car is in the the garage thats its home. lol and im parting out the 7m (look in the for sale section) and as for the 2j,
parts i have,

550's
fpr
safc
wideband
lex afm
1jz mounts

parts on order-
t4 manifold
v band DP
4" intake pipe

parts to order-

clutch
bell housing
flywheel
headgasket
arp head studs
walbro
drift motion 60-1 t4 turbo
50mm waste-gate
oil feed/drain lines

as for goals... mid to high 400's at the wheels. and low 500's at the wheels if i want to turn up the boost.

My garage comment was dealing with how close it is to the door.

One question tho after your parts list, and it comes from just not knowing. Why a Lex AFM? Is the 2J AFM equivalent to the 7M, and need to be upgraded?

Oil drain-
The 2JZGE oil pan has the same gasting as the 2JZGTE oil pan. The difference is that this casting is not tapped or drilled for the turbo drain. I recommend a -10AN drain and using the (1/2)JZ drain adapters from MDC or ARZ. To drill you just drill into the center of the casting, and you can dremel it out to make the hole larger if you'd like. I used a 1/2" drill bit and had no problems. I tapped the two bolt holes with a M8 tap.

Oil feed-
a) tap the block on the exhaust side of the engine.
b) use a sandwich plate and run a -4AN feed line around or over the head. -4AN line and sandwich adapter plates can be ordered from ATPturbo.com and many other sources.

CPS modification-
I have not taken any pictures of the modification needed to make the CPS fit in the 2JZGE head. I will do this.. someday.
You must cut off the hole for adjustment on the CPS. Then drill where the stud from the 2JZGE head will fit, and dremel out the hole for adjusting base timing.

Coils-
If you are running the 7mgte ECU, run 7M coils. mounting the coils may be interesting, but they will give you the best results. You can also use IS300 coils... I've had great luck with them (plus they're COP ;))

C/R-
Very tricky subject. for help on calculating the C/R talk to P5150. He did a great writeup on Clubna-t.com.
On the 7M ECU and low boost, I wouldn't go with thinner than a 2mm HG.
On the 7M ECU and higher boost, I would go with around a 2.5mm HG.
this is just me. I run a 1.8mm HG but I have a standalone EMS.

flywheel-
Use the 1JZ flywheel when using the R154 transmission. A lot of times lightweight flywheels can be found for cheaper than OEM. I ordered mine from 935 motorsports for $300 shipped.

ARP studs necessary?-
According to a lot of the MKIV guys going for moderate power on their NA-T. They don't think so. I went with them just because old 7M habits die hard ;).

Injectors-
the 2jzge fuel rail is top feed.
the 2jzgte factory fuel rail is side feed. (injectors will NOT work w/ 2jzge)
the 1jzgte factory fuel rail is side feed. (injectors will NOT work w/ 2jzge)
the 7mgte fuel rail is top feed. (injectors will work w/ 2jzge)
If running the 7M ecu then run low impedence injectors.

Let me know what else I can help you with.

actually im set for the oil drain the guy who i bought the motor from threw in a 1jz oil pan so it has a oil drain port so now i just need to take care of the feed...

how much did you pick up those is300 coils for? i was thinking i could probably find a wrecked is300 in the junk yard or something and score them for cheep..

and dose anyone know how thick the stock 2jzgte head gasket is?
what do you consider "low boost"?

I picked up my IS300 coils for about $100.

I know where to find the stock 2JZGTE HG thickness, I'll have to look it up later.

for me, roughly, low boost = up to 15-20 PSI, and high boost is above that.

ok so ive made some decisions... im going to keep the stock head bolts... try to find a 2.0mm hg... and im going to stick with the 7m coils, but i am going to mount them some where out of the way.

also today i was cleaning up the motor and taking some stuff off to clean.. i took the valve covers off and found a crap load of sludge.. so i called the guy that sold me the motor (Japanese engine depot) and he said no problem bring the head to me and i will have it cleaned out for free. so hopefully this works out... if there were problems with the motor upon start up he said he would replace the motor. so i guess i bought from the right guy.. lol i hope he keeps to his word. so far he has been great.

thanks! very useful info!

hmmm... i dont think that hg will work for the power i want... what do you think? im aiming for a reliable mid 400's at the wheels and 500's for the track and slicks...
