I think you should be able to add a bit of timing to your map without any issues Jay, but I wouldn't add more than more than 0.5* at a time. Since you've got nothing but time today, I'd take it easy and slowly see if you can get it to hold more boost. Since you're haivng issues with it dropping off past 6500 RPM, there isn't any point to add timing before that point.

Just take it easy, in theory you should be able to run a similar ammount of timing, but every setup is different, and in our cases, we have two very different heads, and different backpressure caused by our turbos.

edit: if you ramp it up and you're going past 20* of timing with no change whatsoever, I'd check in here and post your timing map to make sure everything is looking alright.

It's at 17.? when it starts to fall off, but it's also increasing up to 19.2 and still falling off. I'll see what I can get resolved today, but I have a few jobs to go look at first and then I'll get to it. Thanks again.

The reason the timing is rising in that datalog, is because the boost is falling off. You're running 19.x* timing at 10ish PSI at 7000 RPM's, but your datalog shows you at around 17* at 16PSI and 6500 RPM's.. so as your boost drops the timing rises.

think you can post your current map? I'd like to see what your timing does in the higher RPM's.

He was in need of a vacation and I needed some trouble shooting done with my 1jz. I bought his plane ticket from California to Birmingham and he flew out and stayed three or four days with us. He was awesome. He cut all of my wiring I did and started over. He said it was easier than trouble shooting. I had the car running, but I was having a problem with something. I can't remember now what it was. He is seriously one of the coolest people I've ever met. Not many company owners would have did it, so I try and pay him back by posting his website alot. He didn't have anything to gain by coming out here when he did. He didn't know me from anyone else and he couldn't have picked me out in a lineup.

Jay, the tune looks good.. but it's very conservative. I've never seen/heard of a bad tune making boost drop off, but at this point I don't know what else to suggest.

I attached my most recent tune file for car (before I sold it).
Keep in mind methanol kicks in at 16PSI.
any part of my tune is for use at own risk

WOW!!! That's Cool. I've called him many times with retarded stinger questions and he still answers them, and I barely even know him.

Thanks for the tune Scott. I doubt my problems are in my tune, but I still have the tune Aaron did for me at Texax. It looks a lot cleaner and smoother than mine and it's even more conservative. I'm going to upload it and see how the car runs with it. It only has about 15degrees of timing instead of 18 in the upper rpms. I will find out what's causing this eventually, but if this was a fight, somebody would have stopped it by now...........:eek:wned:

Thanks Tsuper and you're welcome Mr. Graves.

I did a pull tonight with my wife's manual boost controller. It didn't spike to 18psi. It held at 15.XX all the way to 6400 rpm and then it lost all but 9psi. It was doing this last time I did some pulls with my ebc but it was boosting to 18psi and losing it at 6400 rpm. I'm now quite certain that this is rpm based and not mechanical. It's doing it at 6400rpm even though their is a different boost pressure.
Would a crank sensor have anything to do with this? I don't really know what the crank sensor controls, so I thought I'd ask for more help. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Jay, I doubt this is the answer to your problem and I'm not sure if anybody has posted this yet, but I was just wondering if your blowing the spark out on your plugs. I had a friend that had this problem with a 240. I don't remember how he solved it, but maybe look to see if the gap is too big on your plugs or if you need an aftermarket iginiton system. Just an idea.

If it was blowing the spark out, it seems like I'd be able to hear it or something, but it runs perfectly.............except for the whole disappearing of six pounds of boost. Thanks for the post though.

What exactly does the crank sensor do for the motor? I just feel like it has to be something to do with the rpm's or something controlling the rpms or controlled by the rpms.

I also have my plugs gapped to .022. I've tried different gaps and these seem to work best for my car.

I have a very uneducated question again. I thought that you went standalone to rid yourself of piggybacks because they can only take you so far. Are you possibly finding the limits of your SAFC? And, doesn't the stinger have the capability to do anything it does anyway?

Scott, the SAFCII has been in Vonda's car for almost a year. I think you must have seen my AVC-R. Thanks for reading and trying though to offer something though.

I guess you are right about the AVC-R. Sorry. I do try my best to offer something if I can, so maybe someone can take my thought and run with it. I'm not the smartest guy in here by far, but I feel like this thread has taught me a thing or two for future reference. You should understand my problem, I'm Alabamaly challenged!

Thanks Ian, I've felt the spark blowout before when my coilpacks were cracked and I didn't have everything grounded good.
