I am just gonna wrap it and it she cracks and it's not easily repairable, I will get a different one. I have read on the other Supra forum the cast iron manifolds actually work great on mid level Supra's. Seems strange that a 700 h/p car is just considered moderate h/p.

Today Gary and I wrapped the manifold. It was a pain in the butt. We didn't go all the way up to the flange because we have a difficult enough time getting on the bolts even without wrapping. Later Sean and I (mostly Sean) bolted the manifold on and then the turbo. I have loaded a few pics. One of Sean testing the actuator on the spool valve. It really works nice. The blades on the billet wheel spin so easily. Hope to actually have her running in a day or 2. Sean did a nice job tonight.

Dan, I also took the wastegate apart and polished the internal bits and put in a much heavier wastegate spring..... This year making power or blowing up your engine should be no problem!

When do you want me to get started on that manifold?

Sean, let's see how that e-mail you sent pans out before we make any big manifold plans. It will be quicker and a lot less work. Nice job today. Thanks.

Thanks for the compliment NewGen. I read your 1/4 mile time in your signature. I was nearly as fast as my 12.2. But my trap was 121. My 60 ft was 2.0 That was with my old GT35 and 20 lbs of boost. This year a lot more h/p and we will have the 2 step ready to rock. I was trying not to break her that day.

Ha I trapped 126 and ran a 12.8, we shall see what the new setups will do. Both should be considerably faster.

Mike, I my defense of such a crappy 1/4 mile time, as you know, it was my first time racing and we only had boost set at 20-21 lbs. Plus the day was cut short due to running out of light. Even with my old set up, withe 2 step and proper clutch drop, I should have been in the 11's.

Sean with skins for tires, would have been thrown from the track due to his times, if he had traction. Dogged it out of the hole and then proceded to run 126. This year it should be different. Gonna be a fun summer!!:naughty::aigo:

The past few days Sean (funky_monkey58) has been building a front facing manifold in return for a non disclosed favor and bit of cash. He wouldn't let me take pics yet as he is in the process of using a carbide bit, welding and grinding. A lot of aluminum in the air flying around. If it looks anything like the one had he made last year on his 7M, it will look very nice.
I did snap a couple of photos though. My new Q45 throttle body and a shot of 2jz with manifold missing. I am cleaning up the area under the manifold, touching up wiring and getting her ready for the manifold to be installed. Hopefully we will be ready by this weekend. The Q45 is huge when compared to the OEM throttle body. The guy I got it from was making 900 rwhp but was upgrading and "didn't need such a small one." :icon_bigg

Latest on intake build: Sean welded her up today. It is an art form making one of these manifolds. Takes a hell of a lot of grinding and cutting. I have added a few pic's. Please bear in mind we still have a lot of welds to grind smooth and add the Q45, after shortening up the opening. I like the angle and with a bit of polish she will really dress it up under the hood, plus decrease clutter.

With luck, we will be ready on Monday to have the manifold planed flat and ready to install.

Yes, he has improved, but don't tell him. That flange was nasty! Taking the time to get good approximation of the aluminum is essential. Plus, having a good Miller wire feed welder helps a lot. Now, if I can just get him to finish it off tomorrow, we can haul her in to the machine shop on Monday.

My bet would be flange machining. My manifold needed 1/8" shaved to flatten the warpage welding put into it o_O

Steve is correct as usual. Any time that much welding gets done, warping occurs. The guys I take my manifolds too are reasonable and quick. I think they use a big sander.
