.016" is .4mm, that's a good amount he took off. If you use a stock gasket the compression is going to go up. It looks to me like the deck has been surfaced before, I can see some machining lines on it that look like it was surfaced before. That might mean the head had been surfaced before too. In that case a 2mm hg would probably not be a bad idea.

Can you get a 2mm composite HG?
The finish on his cylinder head is definitely not good enough for a mhg, and he doesn't really have the means to get the deck blocked.

It's pretty much too late now though! Keep this in mind though Kyle, you should check your compression, and don't turn the boost up!

little late now.
I'll check compression when we get it all running and everything.
and yarden,
I'll check it BEFORE I turn the boost up :)

Edit:
Supramania, s my d. I just typed out what we did last night and today and it keeps logging me out before I can post it. Mother fuckers! okay. I'm logged in for good now.
SO!
We got both the manifolds on and bolted up, turbo on, but not bolted, fuel rail on, cam and cam holders, cam covers and the heater hose that goes in the back of the head. Still need to get everything else together, but should be done tonight. Still need to figure out which 2 holes the bolts for the egr block off plate goes in in the back of the head, need to figure out what I bumped under my dash to make the illumination lights for the back lights to go out, adjust my clutch, all that good stuff. I probably forgot something, but whatever.

New tools!

Freakin ARP. Had to buy this JUST for the freaking head nuts.

This one is my favorite :)

I still haven't put this damn thing on yet, I better do that.

We thought about just leaving it like this, but figured I wouldn't get much boost. haha.
I hate putting on and taking off the turbo and manifold. such a bitch.

After last night:

Exhaust mani all bolted up

Turbo still needed to be tightened.

Andddddd,
After tonight!

Just to compare, I think this was either friday or thursday:

And what goes here?

And where does this connect to? The one on my finger, it's going to be way shorter than that, about half, but I haven't cut it yet since I don't know where it goes.

And which vacuum line goes in here? It's supposed to be rotated but it isn't (the picture) it's the vacuum line pipes on the front bottom of the intake manifold

Update from last night:

This worries me.

I found out where one of these went today, after I filled up the radiator and engine with coolant, and heard it leaking out of the hose coming out of the block under the intake manifold. It's the one that goes from there to the bottom of the throttle body. this of course was after I Got everything on. Ugh.

Update for today:
Everything is in.
And it's not idling.
I'm getting really really frustrated.
There's some sort of a huge vacuum leak. I can hear it in the cabin, so loud. And I can't figure out where it is.
I don't knowwwww.
I really hope I don't have to tear this back apart just to find a fucking hose I missed. Which is probably what it is judging by the hoses I have left over.

Check your power steering idle-up lines. That's what that little hose on the bottom looks like it's for.

Spray some carb cleaner all over the place as the engine is running, on hoses, and gaskets, and see if the idle changes.

that's the BOV vacuum source

that's the PS idle up vacuum source. If you don't have PS, then cap off that line, but make sure to use either a zip tie on the vacuum cap or some superglue. It'll pop off. I know this. :p
