1JZ FTW. Spark plugs in 10 minutes instead of 45. LOL

takes just as long to take 2 hose clamps off as it does to take the cover off over your plugs.

turbo has one stay, oil lines and manifold flange, besides heat shields. oil return hard cause you cant see it???? wrenches/sockets don't depend on line of site...

sounds like alot of problems between floor and wrench. 7m is easy besides the stock oil filter location. then again i used to be a mechanic so maybe im used to it...........

you forgot to take off the coilpack & everything associated with that.. not thats its that hard.. but a hassle

turbo has one stay? what does that mean? yea the oil return is a pita cause you cant see it and have to bend your hand around the engine mount to get to it.. fishing the sockets and what not through the oil lines, braces and trying to feel your way onto the nuts holding the flange on.. Its a pita.. not necessarily hard but a pita.. the whole engine is like that.. a pita.. a honda is 100x easier.. and i think a jz is much easier to work on..

The turbo comes off in 20 minutes... I guess some people really do have problems working on them. :dunno:

seriously. the 7M is easy to work on, in my opinion.

This is a funny topic.... Coming from a Tech thats wrenched for 12 years on just about everything ...if you feel that the 7m is a difficult motor to work on please god don't touch another thing in your engine bay and take it to someone else....

I just tip it on end no need to remove it. The other thing is the throttle cable in the way of cylinder 5 & 6. Still i can change them in 10 minutes. 15 if you include getting the tools ready.

a stay is the bracket going to the block, at least thats what the tsrm calls it. Its not hard to get the drain off, its 2 nuts, a 12 inch extension and a stubby ratchet makes it cake. then take the 17mm oil pressure side bolt out and take it off with the lines still connected to the turbo.

I guess its just experience from working on cars since i was 14. Ratchet wrenches make things easier too.

i think hondas and dsms are way easier to work on than the 7m. for instance, the head gasket. toyota deemed it necessary to fish the wiring harness through the intake manifold (which is very difficult to get off). have you ever done a timing belt on a honda? easy. i do everything on my 7m, but it takes me a lot longer than doing it on a honda. even doing the clutch is easy on a honda. sure you have to drop the suspension, but it comes off easy.

well thats expected. comparing a 4 cyl economy NA with a performance oriented turbocharged i6; its going to be more complicated no matter what.

Try a 3000gt. They have a 3L twin turbo V6, AND a transmission in the engine bay.

:werd:

Changing spark plugs, wires, rotor, and cap on my 6G72 took 3 hours the first time, and about 1 1/2 hours the second time after getting a bad batch of wires the first time around

It's just you ;).

There's a lot worse cars to work on.... but....they are (by far) not the easiest car to work on.

I think many 7m owners have had their cars for so long that they are dialed in to the way the car is put together, and working on them become second nature.

obviously its 2 nuts.. Im saying its a pain to get the 2 nuts.. I guess you're more skilled at blindly fishing a socket to the 2 nuts through the oil lines, bracket.. or maybe you get exray vision when you work on cars from when you're 14

LOL, the oil filter is STUPIDLY easy to do on a 7M-GTE...

TSRM shows the easiest way to do it, it's a direct shot under the car.

Granted, we probably have dialed in to how to work on them, but some stuff is still a PITA (comes with the territory of a turbocahrged car).

Just remember that the entire car was built by NORMAL people on an assembly line. Follow the steps that they assembled it and it's easy.

Oh, and adjusting the CPS requires a NORMAL wrench without removing ANYTHING. Removing it is another matter. Try on a 3rd gen F-body where the damn disributor is almost under the dash...
