Is German Castrol really going the way of the dinosaur?

Indeed. I've only seen M07's around here then, and yeah it's at the Wal-Mart here as well.

Partsource is like the independent-store version of Canadian Tire, so I would assume Canadian Tire has it here as well.

FWIW, everything I've found here is M07 - you can see I have two slightly different bottles, both say Made in Germany on the back, M0796 on the right bottles, M07228 on the left bottles.

Doesn't surprise me for the Canadian stores...it's interesting though that AutoZone here in the US (at least in FL) has current production GC. Perhaps they are not completely dropping it?

Finally found some current production german castrol at one autozone in my area...

Next oil change it's going in.

The pennzoil platinum has been holding up great as well. Get great oil pressure that hasn't dropped off from heat, it's also staying fairly clear at least on the dipstick...

They just open an AZ about 1/2 a mile from m house in the middle of nowhere.... they stock GC . They only had 2 boxes of it( i purchased both of them) I asked the manager how come only 2 boxes. He told me a'lot of people that drive german cars, don't really replace there own oil; the price on the oil does not help ether. He told me to his knowledge, that they are keeping the oil, but only in places that seems to have german cars? (i don't get this).
I have a 8 boxes of this stuff now.....lol. I still need to rebuild my motor.

A very long time ;)
You need to keep it in a place without big temperature swings, dry and away from sunlight.

Engine Oil Shelf Life.
I couldn't decide whether to put this in the FAQ or the main page, so it's in both, because I get asked this question a lot. Typically, the question is along the lines of "GenericAutoSuperStore are having a sale on WickedlySlippy Brand synthetic oil. If I buy it now, how long can I keep if before I use it?"
In general, liquid lubricants (ie. oils, not greases) will remain intact for a number of years. The main factor affecting the life of the oil is the storage condition for the products. Exposure to extreme temperature changes, and moisture will reduce the shelf life of the lubricants. ie. don't leave in the sun with the lid off. Best to keep them sealed and unopened.

Technically, engine oils have shelf lives of four to five years. However, as years pass, unused engine oils can become obsolete and fail to meet the technical requirements of current engines. The specs get updated regularly based on new scientific testing procedures and engine requirements. But this is only really a concern if you've bought a brand new car but have engine oil you bought for the previous car. An oil that is a number of years old might not be formulated to meet the requirements set for your newer engine.

If your unopened containers of engine oil are more than three years old, read the labels to make sure they meet the latest industry standards. If they do meet the current standards, you might want to take the extra precaution of obtaining oil analysis before using them. An oil analysis will check for key properties of the oil and ensure that it still meets the original manufacturing specs. Of course the cost of getting an analysis done on old oil is probably going to outweigh going and buying fresh stuff. So it's a double-edged sword.
As a general rule, the simpler the oil formulation, the longer the shelf life. The following is a guideline under protected conditions:

Product Shelf Life
Base Oils, Process Oils 3 years
Hydraulic Oils, Compressor Oils, General Purpose Lubricating Oils 2 years
Engine Oils and Transmission Oils 3 years
Industrial and Automotive Gear Oils 2 years
Metal Working and Cutting Oils 1 year

The following are signs of storage instability in a lubricant:

Settling out of the additives as a gel or sticky liquid
Floc or haze
Precipitates/solid material
Colour change or haziness
Water contamination in a lubricant can be detected by a "milky" appearance of the product.

German Castrol located in CT.

Autozone
95 Myrtle ST.
New Britain, CT (downtown area)

I'm sure this means all autozones in CT carry it. They had one full row of the stuff on their shelves with dates of m07179. They're getting new cases in tomorrow and I'll be buying... some ;)

Edit: Forgot to mention this is the green GC!! Did the winter oil change today (7qts.) on the supra and noticed that.
The supra seems to be liking the GC. I noticed a bit more pep when I hit the gas at low rpm's, and a little better oil psi at idle on the stock guage over the 5w-30 RP I was running previously. At 3000rpm on the highway I noticed my oil pressure was 45 psi at operating temp vs. 38-42 psi with the RP. This is on a stock GTE oiling system... for the moment.

It's very close to the same...the Green GC contained some esters that are not identified. Both are primarily PAO base stock. Mostly the difference was noticed with an oil wear analysis....the Green was a bit better.

Yeah, I knew that about the old green, but I was referencing this new line of green... I bet it's different in some way or other from the version that was out 3-4 years ago...
