Isn't the SAFC needed when using the lexus housing and larger injectors? What about the AFPR?

No. If you need those things to tune, you should consider something other than the Lex meter.

Awesome. I may be doing this after christmas.

OP any updates on the idle and other readings? Have you thought about doing either a piggyback or standalone setup? Might be easier to hit the sweetspot that way although would be more time consuming I think.

no updates. been sick the past few days. i'm gonna try a few other things to see if i can get everything running correctly. i already have a piggyback but i may end up looking into other options like hks vpc or MAFT pro.

I have a buddy that used Megasquirt on his Camaro with good results and I've been looking at using it instead of a piggy back on my Honda build. Have an emanage ultimate on it now. It seems fairly easy and straight forward if you want to check into it. Sorry to hear about the sickness. Thanks for letting me borrow your thread for a bit while you were away.

Lol no problem! But I have an update:

Threw the stock turbo and accordion hose back on the car and it runs excellent. Vf is at a constant 1.9(needs more tuning), SAFC is zeroed out, Afr's at 14.7 at idle and doesnt go rich and bog down like th SP did when it was installed. Being that the car is running the way it should now, its led me to beleive there is a problem either with the SP61 or my custom intake I built. I leak tested the intake and it checked out fine up to 25psi so I'm ruling that out, also I boost leak tested my intercooler piping again from SP61(when it was installed) to the throttle body and all checked out good to 25 psi. Not really sure what the hell is going on. Here's a question, being that the SP61 is a larger turbo, does the ECU need to completely relearn everything since I put on a turbo that flows different from stock? I'm thinking maybe I didn't give the ECU enough time to learn the new turbo. What are your thoughts?

Correct me if my logic is wrong, but could the turbo cause an issue because it is drawing in more air. The computer uses coolant temp, air flow, rpm, timing, and throttle position as inputs for changing the amount of fuel being added in at any given RPM. Being that a larger turbo would draw in more air at the same rpm as a smaller turbo with the other inputs, besides air flow, being the same in both cases, would the afm not send out a signal above 2000 Hz causing the computer to engage fuel cut? Being that Reed only changed the turbo back to the smaller size and it fixed his problem, would it be safe to say that the lex/550 mod would not work in the case where there is a larger turbo installed?

Ca91mkIII that is correct it could,

but you would have to be right on the edge of fuel cut before putting on a larger turbo for that to happen....

If that was the case turning down the boost a little would compensate

unless maybe the turbo housing was cracked to hell and your losing the metered air?

i did find a bolt backed off from the turbo housing on the compressor side. when i found it i thought it was a win for me. torqued bolt and it tried it again, yielded same results

Does the shaft spin freely on the SP61? I wonder if maybe that could cause some problems.

Chris

yes! even after the car shuts off takes about 20 seconds to stop spinning

A not free spinning compressor wheel will yield the exact opposite, as the turbo won't be able to flow as much. Ask me how I know.

Start on page 10 to see how fuel injection is calculated. Note main input versus secondary corrections.

VERY NICE INFORMATION!! i appreciate it. more updates:

threw the custom intake on with the stock turbo and at first it was running normal but after it warmed up, did a few revs and sure enough it was bogging down and dying just like the SP61 was. so i've at least duplicated the problem and isolated a component. next, i will throw the SP61 back on and try to install the stock accordion hose and hope for the best. gonna see if i can stretch the accordion to the 3 inch inlet on the SP. that should be fun...
