They will probably look up what came with it by looking up your vin number. A friend on here went to Toyota and found out all the options, the month and year it was made, everything about the car and what it came with through the vin #

Ok so I talked with someone from State Farm today and they said they called up a few places to search for used parts but couldn't find any. He said the car is probably going to be a total loss because of this.

how bout this: take the money and ask them to sell you the car for the salvage value and deduct that from the payment. That should leave you enough cash to pay for the frame work, then do the rest yourself?

Definitely an option to explore! If you decide not to fix it, when they tell you how much $$$ they'll give you for it, do the math and see if you can buy it back and part it out to make more $$. For example, when my Del Sol Si was totaled (4th car in a 5 car pile-up), they gave me $4,200. I bought it back for $400, Sold the motor and trans for $300, (D16Z6 lol) Interior and door panels for $150, Seats for $200, Exhaust for $150, a few more things, then got $100 out of the mangled shell at a scrap yard.

Came out at least $500 better than I would have had I just let them take it! Just something to think about!

I definitely want to fix it up if I can; the interior is immaculate and the body is also in very good shape other than where I hit the pole. The only thing is it won't be worth as much now because of the frame damage. And they offered me $2,326 but I'm going to see if I can get more out of it.

How much to buy it back?

Typically it's 10% - 12% of what they offer you for the totaled vehicle depending on a few things. One of my best friends' mother is my insurance agent :)

I'd take the $$, buy it back and fix it up myself. You may not know much about cars, but now's the perfect time to learn!! Find yourself a mentor or at least an extra pair of hands to help you and have at it!!

The only down side is your car will have a "Salvage Title" which can make it difficult to sell later on... if you ever want to sell it, that is!

Yeah that's probably what I'm gonna end up doing. My neighbor owns a salvage yard so he could probably help me with some of the repairs and assist me in obtaining parts, so that's a plus. And yeah this is a good time to learn. :D

So, around 250?
That would leave around 2k to go with. not bad. even better if you can get more though. I wish you good luck though. When I wrecked my honda a couple years back, I found out years later they screwed something up when fixing it.I got my insurance company to pay for the costs, but literally had to talk to at least 2 dozen people since everyone wanted to transfer me to someone else. I talked to people in Kentucky (where wreck happened years ago, North Carolina ( where I live now), and somehow Georgia (where I've never even visited.) overall it was a very trying experience and almost didn't seem worth the hassle. Pride and anger were the motivators in calling them back every. single. day.

If you can't find parts at his yard, some salvage yards have access to an electronic inventory of parts via computer that lets them search the inventories of every other salvage yard on it nation wide. These yards have the ability to buy and sell parts between each other, typically cheaper that the average person can get. See if your neighbor is in this network and if he'll help you out!

Well I ended up getting an additional $400 and bought it back for about $210. Time to start work!

Anyone have any suggestions on performance parts I should install while the car is being rebuilt? Or should I just focus on restoring the car to it's stock form first?

Spend the money on the frame at least...make sure thats stright....then redo ur rad. mounts....then buy only the things u need (rad, hosing, lighting...etc)....cause u never know what else is going to happen, or what else u will need. lol CPS and harness in my case. :D

^^^ This!

Get her back on the road first for sure. No sense in buying a bunch go-fast parts when it can't go in the first place!
It actually still runs and drives but I haven't driven it anywhere.
