A honda forum was talking about Tuners verses American Muscle, and the guy who started the thread was talking about racing a Mustang, and an accord. I have to give the Honda guys credit..even they know better..They immediatley called "Bullshit" on the guy. Saying it must have been an 80's 4cyl with 200,000 miles, and who cares about beating a 1.8L accord, and so on. I informed them that Supras can hang with American Muscle...and that some people I know can outrun corvettes...LOL And I told them a MkIII Supra was the FIRST Import Tuner to win Pinks...and it was against a Chevelle. We gotta send love to our Supra's when we can. :biglaugh:

That's great represent'n Aaron. But don't be surprised when a Honda smokes you! I've seen 3-4 guys on a couple of other forums running 10's and plenty of them in the 12-13 range. The good thing about the Supra, is that you can do it with your stock motor. They have to do a motor swap, and then still have to lay out big bucks for a turbo kit.

Had brand new 91 accord coupe and car was sweet, comfortable, ran well but not like the supra. Rear wheel drive> front wheel. I was 2nd owner of low mileage supra and car is just hands down a better car in my opinion.

My buddies 98 Hatch with a GSR Race turbo will kill 99.9% of the MKIII's i know and 95% of the MKIV's i've seen run. His quickest time is 9.99 1/4 mile. He runs a consistant 10.01 - 10.30. Daily driven and race consistantly through out the summer months. I respect those who show enough respect to get it back.

But your buddy is part of the 1% who can actually do that. Most Civics / Accords are all show and no go. And I do respect someone who can get a flawed design to go low 10s. I just don't like the cars to begin with.

Besides, we all know who is more JDM tyte. (1JZ FTW!) :sarcasm:

Dollar for Dollar, the Supra will spank the majority of those guys. They have to drop a pretty penny to get them to a race level. With the supra, $1000 is plenty. The honda guys on the other hand are paying probably $3000 to get them to the 250whp range. Unless they can do all the fab work themselves.

I've owned an 02' RSX-S. I put the Greddy Turbo Kit and FMIC Kit on with a full 3'' exhaust. Cost me almost $4000 for it all. I managed 276whp, but only 201wtq at 7psi. I ran a 14.1 @ 104. Stock clutch FTL!!! Ended up burning it up on the 3rd run. So, mid 13's were possible.

But, do you see my point on the dollar for dollar??

yup, its cheaper to make a 5.0 go 10's then a civic...id rather take the 5.0 over the civic...but dont get me wrong, i still have tons of respect for that civic owner, remember that you can make any car go fast, you just need the $$$...

They can't be compared. Im sure we've all driven a civic. lol

Maybe I'm missing the point of this arguement, but this is how I see it:

As far as I recall, we're trying to compare apples and oranges here... the MkIII, originally in today's money, is something like $50000 CAD to buy? A Civic is what? 20000 CAD for the top of the line, today?

Stock for Stock a civic should get blown apart in performance by a Mk III, and especially a MkIV. As for what's done beyond stock is dependant on the skill and/or dedication of the owner, and the size of their wallet.

I'm very confident to say there's many guys with Honda Civics out there that know what they're doing, and do what they do quite well and would put to shame many MkIII owners. But since civics are cheap to get in the door, I'm sure the rest is self explanitory as to why they get such a bad rap.

From the factory, the MkIII was originally a sports car, is a sports car, and will always be a sports car.

From the factory, the Civic was an economy car, is an economy car, and always will be an economy car.

If you go out and buy a Civic sport model, put in a bigger engine, turbo, all the bells and whistles... you STILL have a car that was originally designed to be bulletproof reliable, get awesome milage, and be reasonable to drive... except now it's probably very few of those things, and blisteringly fast.

I think my point is that I would personally rather have a sports car that was designed to be a sports car rather than an economy car that was bread into a sporty hatch by popular demand. Making a 10 second civic, albeit an amazing feat of automotive modification, misses the point of what makes the civic a truely awesome feat of engineering: reliability, affordability, and dependability. A civic will always command my respect for what it was designed by Honda to do, rather than what the tuning niche does to bastardize a large majority of them.

To me, the measure of a car is what the company that designed it put into it, not what the end-user can get out of it for many times more the cost of the original vehicle. You can make anything run 10 seconds with enough money. But, look at the MkIII: People not in the know still mistake them for a new car, they still run strong after +20 years, they're still competitive to drive, mod, and have fun with. Even stock, they're still a good car. Coversely, a 1987 Civic does what it was designed from the factory to do: be reliable, dependable, and affordable. They're both great cars at what they were designed for.

the poblem i have always had with big power turbo civic/integras is that to make any major power to have to slap on a huge turbo. I mean yes its fast but i just don't like my power band beng from 7K-9Krpm but thats just me. I really love the torqueness of my 7m and how it spools at about 2.8k and pulls hard till redline but thats just me don't get me wrong i really like hondas i mean my friends type R integra is a pure joy to drive there just isn't anuff umff lol

The fact that we are even comparing Hondas to Supras is pathetic. Of course some of them are fast. Southern California NASA Honda Challenge has some of the fastest cars on the track, and a lot of them are running stock D16s.

Congrats.
Now dont come crying to us when ur get your doors blown off by a little 89 hatchback.
You dont have to spend even 2k to make a honda fast. My friend for instance had a stock 96 coupe with a SOHC vtec. Welded his own turbo log manifold DP, IC pipes and exhaust, got a cheap ass junkyard turbo, used IC and tuned with with an AFC and 440s. Ran 13.7s on street tires at 7psi and spent less than $1000.Throw some slicks on it and get mid 12s? Better tuning and more boost is high 11s easy on a stock motor. I havnt seen many timeslips on this forum that're that fast... Not every Honda owner you see is the little rice boy with 19s on the civic with a bodykit like you might think. OH and wow at how much better my 97 coupe handles than my mk3. Mk3 has eibach pro kit springs and tokico blue shocks. My civic just has a set of omni slip on coilovers on stock shocks..nothing else. Maybe its the fact that my civic weighs about 1000lbs less than the supra.

lol theres been a few honda's that are decently quick around here. i've seen 3 fly over a curve damn near onto the beach and 1 slam into a concrete divider wall... pretty much a straight line car. Im pleased with my happy medium and something that was designed for what it is unlike a honda.

I agree with Figgie.
If a Vette owner just came into this thread and tried telling us his car could beat all Supra's and Civic's we'd all tell him to GTFO. Why be that guy?
