i used to work in parts/service (advance and pep boys for about 4-ish years), u wouldnt belive the dumbasses.... lol....there was a guy i worked with years ago who did an oil change on a newer car and cross-threaded the filter on. obviously, it didnt seal and long story short they had to buy the customer a new engine a day later. lol...god...i have sooo many stories, most involving ignorant asshole customers.
lol.... i had an asian guy in an acura come to me asking for a washer fluid pump- tahts wat autozone had told him the problem was. i mentioned that he should check the hoses for holes (that would be a quick, cheap fix). i went outside with him and noticed that the washer pump was running when he flipped the lever. i dumped a gallon of blue water in the resevoir and.....guess wat the problem was!!!!! instead of thanking me, he cursed at me, and complained to my manager that i was a "know-it-all". mind u i never was impolite to the jackass. after that, i just "sold them the washer pump".
I can never believe the wierdos I run into at the auto store. The worst part is that most of them are employees. I preferred Advance for a long time but most of the sane, reasonable employees have recently quit. Smug, pompous and completely devoid of knowledge...yeah that pretty much sums up the new guys.

I use to work for Autozone/Advance for around 2 1/2 years total. Being on one side of the counter I can see how you think all parts store employees are idiots (they usually are), but you would not believe the customers that walk through the doors. I'm surprised some of them figured out how to start the car. I have enough stories to write a book.
I got into an arguement about oil with the local retard at the Parts Source. I found a good supply of German Castrol and walked up to the counter with a basket full. The genius behind the counter went on to tell me that I was "wasting my money" and that "All oil comes from the same container, they just change the packaging." I wanted to unload on this guy and jump right down his throat but discipline got the better of me. I just smiled and nodded and died a little inside. He then asked why I didn't buy a filter and told me I was "supposed to change that too" while changing my oil. The only filters carried by this particular shit hole was Fram...a whole wall of them.
This place was in a City called Oshawa. To paint the picture for you, I'm positive all babies in this town are born with Mullets. It's basically like Detroit since it's a GM town and there are some real "classy" people in this town. I pity these people for being so dumb.

If you go into an Advance Auto Parts store, ask for the 'parts pro' - if you go into Autozone, see if the 'Commercial specialist' is available.
I was a Parts Pro @ Advance, and CS @ AZ. They are the only ones that will truly know wtf they are doing (90% of the time)

AUTOZONE FTL!!!!!!!!! Now and then they suprise me but typically they are shitty, O'reillys here is good but there are a bunch of ricer dumbasses at the local one so I drive 10 min to cape to get stuff because ricers piss me off, especially Grand Am 2 door owners with universal wings and neon on a stock shitty ass car. OMG I HATE THEM

Whenever I order direct parts i make sure its for my car and not something else, before it's ordered.
i went into an PartsSource around here. I was looking for some redline water wetter, but i couldn't find where they kept it.
So they're a bit busy, and i'm standing around, and some idiot that works there asks if he could help me. I told him, where i could get some red-line water wetter.
he looks at me blankly. He then asks me what i was looking for. I asked, you carry redline products right?
He shook his head saying they didn't. I point at the big sign behind him; "we carry RedLine products!" and I then asked for a different employee. He kind of gets smug with me and is all like, oh this guy will tell you the same thing and this and that.
So some guy comes over, and i recognize him. He owns a MR2 turbo and he goes to the Toyota Nation Meets sometimes.
I ask him, and he leads me straight to where they keep the RedLine water wetter.
he then proceeds to grab a bottle, walk up to the other guy and show it to him. I thanked the guy and gave him a little tip for his hilarious antics.
I don't ask for you to know exactly what every product does... i just ask if you do not know something, look to your left and ask you co worker.
