I use to work for Autozone/Advance for around 2 1/2 years total. Being on one side of the counter I can see how you think all parts store employees are idiots (they usually are), but you would not believe the customers that walk through the doors. I'm surprised some of them figured out how to start the car. I have enough stories to write a book.
QFT.
I wasn't even at Napa for a year.

Whenever someone told me 'it didn't matter' I'd just quickly check to see, oh, I don't know... IF THEY WERE THE SAME PART NUMBER. If so, I handed him/her it. If not, I would explain that they had two different part numbers, and I'd like to be sure they got the correct one.

I can still remember all the dumb asses comming in on friday nights to buy octane booster, thinking that shit work make their cars run faster at the street races. I even had one guy beleiveing that NOS brand octane booster actully contained NO2 in it.

What I throughly enjoy is then when you tell them there are different listings and they don't know what the fuck they have in the vehicle, then go on to tell you they are going someplace else because I quote "Obviously you don't know what I need" It's not my fault you're a fucking inbred retard who doesn't know what they have in there vehicle.

I sometimes enjoy working in parts, but some days it just amazes at the level of stupidity some people have. If anyone thinks they have dealt with stupid people try selling someone parts for a vehicle, wow....

orrrrrr

how about parts store telling me there isn't a difference between the N/A and Turbo fan clutch? Or the alternators are for an auto or manual, not N/A or Turbo...

I fucking hate parts stores now...

That being said, I don't think I'd ever want to work aftermarket parts; it's so much more BS than a dealership. The parts listings the aftermarket systems have sometimes are total crap, and it's really all they have to go on.

You wouldn't believe the difference in service I get when I say "This is Jeff from Stampede Toyota," versus not though. I love it, haha.

I agree, it's not really the parts counter guy, his system is wrong...

a GOOD parts counter guy will know that his system isn't perfect, and do it oldschool.... break out the part books. It takes longer, but it might have what you're looking for...

But I have gotten wrong parts from the dealer as well... until I met the two guys that are both into supras and owned and worked on them. The discussions we have sometimes is pretty funny. Guy was ragging on the 7M a bit, and the other guy goes, "WTF are you talking about, I did 400 to the wheels with an upgraded turbo ont he stock block, it's very stout."

These guys give me good deals and go out of their way to help me all the time, I just wish I could do something in return...

EXCEPT AUTOZONE'S POLICY IS TO THROW THE BOOKS AWAY!!

As CS/PP, I would *always* be the first to pull the totes when truck came in, just to get the damn catalogues out, and store them.

I developed one hell of a reputation with the shops around Ocala, for being able to find a solution to *any* problem that came up for them. If a part was made, I could find it.
