STUPID F'ING A340E - Leaks like a damn sieve (the pan) and seems I'm redoing the damn thing EVERY 3 MONTHS!! Used Toyota's FIPK (cleaned pan really well, checked for flatness, applied about 1/4" bead, let sit for about 3.5 minutes, then installed - same as I would for any silicone)
Nope, springs a leak on the passenger side, between the front #2 and #4 bolts. 3 MONTHS LATER -
Do the same thing, only this time save myself $10 and use regular old Permatex Red.
3.5 months later, I'm leaking again, only this time on the DRIVER'S SIDE right @ bolt #5 from the front. I figure 'eh.. probably just a little loose, I'll tighten it a little.'
THE THREADS ARE F'ING STRIPPED. I'm plenty pissed at this point, as now I have to pull the pan again, and helicoil that hole. :3d_frown:
But wait! That's not all!! Remember bolt #3 that original gave me trouble on the passenger side? YEAH THE BOLT BREAKS OFF FLUSH WITH THE CASING.
So here I am, now getting to 8pm at night, pissed off, laying under my car, with my $4/qt Toyota Type T-IV DRIPPING INTO MY FACE as I try to drill out that damn broken bolt, and helicoil THAT side as well.
Naturally, I've only got 1 6mm x 1.0 helicoil left, so what do we do?
To the '88 Accordmobile, Batman!
High-tail it to Autozone, which is THANKFULLY still open (running almost 9pm now) and they have NO 6mm helicoils. Just one $30 6mm set, with a tap, tool, and 3 whole coils.
WTF. I need it. I buy it. I scramble back to the Accord, and shift my 5 gears through 2.0L of carb'd 92hp fury back to the house.
Back under the car, IN A PILE OF TRANNY FLUID (by this time, I really don't give a shit) and oh yeah - the mosquitos come out. Freakin' bastards tried to transfuse my blood, with no return policy! So I head inside, whip out the trusty box fan, and give them a heapin' dose of WINDTUNNEL!
30 minutes later, I've got 2 fresh helicoils in, and found another bolt that was starting to go - so I coil'd it, too.
[/rant]
So I'm trying something different. A real, honest to God, cork transmission pan gasket for the A340e. I've never had a problem with one leaking on any other car I had, so we'll see what happens this time
 for the Supra. :biglaugh:
I can not WAIT to get my 5 speed in - but I'm holding off, to rebuild it all fresh and new, to just drop in with a fresh forged 7M (yeah, decided against the 1JZ, guys) with a new fresh wiring harness, next summer. I'm going to spend the rest of this school year doing bolt on mods, MAFT-Pro, and suspension work.
:biggrinbo Thanks for letting me rant
