Today I have been working on the wiring on the engine. Swapping out the ISC connector for a better one. Also rewiring the knock sensors. Both of the wires to mine were in rough shape. Should have this all buttoned up today and have the motor ready to drop in. Next up is to replace the frictions in my auto tranny and get it ready to go in.

O ya, the cat thing. I turned around with the camera and seen my cat trying to get a raise! Go figure. All she is good for is chasing birds and squirrels. Havent seen a mouse in ages.

Got the harness repaired and installed for the most part. Still have to get some more hoses and a GTE thermostat housing to finish it out. Would actually make progress if I didnt have to take things off after I put them on. Had the AC bracket mounted on the block when I realized the alt adjustment arm wasnt in place. :biglaugh:

Next up is to replace the friction in the tranny so I can mate them together and drop it in.

Got the trtanny torn down today. What a scary, rewarding yet unnecessary excercise. Scary because I havent been in a transmission on my own. Ive looked over peoples shoulders a couple of times but this is my first. Rewarding because now I almost have it behind me. Just have to reassemble this mess I have created. Unnecessary because none of the frictions were bad. The input and output seals were the only things leaking. Still was the best time to do this however. These are the pics I took for reference to go back together.

you replaced all the parts anyway since you were in there right???!

Automatic transmissions are so intimidating to me for some reason.

p1074336_2.jpg

This is all valve body gaskets..

This is why there are transmission shops and why they charge so damn much!!

p1074336_4.jpg

I think I am gonna have to read those directions on this one....

I told ya they intimidated me. Use the EPC parts explosion for the trans. It might help ya figure out where stuff goes.

You know, when I build an engine and I have everything I can usually have one together in less than 6 hours. This transmission on the other hand.....
So far I am 10 hours into and still dont have it together. Although I do have fewer parts to go in. If any lesson has been learned here, it is to NEVAR go into another transmission. Damn my inner child for telling me I could do this.

Well 12 hours later and I have the transmission guts reassembled. Initially I thought the clutches werent too bad. Upon further inspection and after pulling apart more clutch packs I found out better.

Hopefully you can see the friction material pulling away from the backing plate.

Here you can see why I initially thought they werent too bad. You can still read the numbers.

IJ: Noted and understood sir. However it is a very rare occurance that I wear the ring in shop. I know a few guys with permaneny bands on their fingers as well.

casgallo: thanks for the props. You got that voice too huh?

Weezl: This is beyond intimidating.

I found the page that desribes how to bench test with air and everything passed that test. :pHEW: It isnt definitive but is a great indicator of things to come.

Now I am contemplating going into the valve body since my friend is busy at work and says it may be a couple of weeks out before he can get to it. Really all it needs is a couple of gaskets replaced to freshen it up. MAybe I can do it without getting into too much trouble. Or at least no more than I am already in. Will post pics of the adventure if I do it.

Went through the valve body. It was evident that pictures would be on the back burner as remembering where everything went was more important.

I will not be doing this again. I just hope everything works when I turn the key. I did run into a snag when I went to install my new NS switch. Got to check if it is a supersede or not that needs to be modified or returned.

p1076964_5.jpg

The mounting hole on the new one is too small to allow my retaining bolt through. Other than that everything matches on them but the numbers.

You think they had different ones for the turbo and N/A or possibly a year change difference?

the 22171 part shows for a 84-85 supra and 84-86 Cressida. The supra and cressida use the A43DE trans, thats why the part doesnt look right.

the 30240 is the correct part for the 86-92 supra (A340E)

however, if the plugs are the same and you can get it adjusted right I dont see any good reason you can use it. If you want for temporary use, you can just plug it in and turn it to "park" and leave it sitting in the engine bay somewhere. I did that for a while with my switch when I did my 5spd swap.

Well now, that would explain that.
Guess back onto the playing field ordering and waiting on parts. Where did you find that info at anyway?
