Yeah, though about that too. He has no idea where I live so once I tow the car it won't be seen for a long time heh. I plan on replacing the locks eventually anyway. Lets hope he doesn't tow it himself before I can get it hah!

Update

So I have the ownership now, along with a bill of sale for $10.00 :icon_bigg petty good deal. I had to pay him back for getting me the ownership, eventhough he didn't want any money. Today I tried to go get the key tumbler to get a key made. I though CAA would come and unlock the car for me but because it isn't plated they wouldn't cover the charge which at best I found was around $70 ish. I went to the MTO before that way early this morning and they would not issue me a temp plate, which CAA would be ok with as a plate for coverage for free lock opening and towing, so the MTO says I need an appraisal for the temp plate! The car is of a classic age, so it requires an appraisal...
I found a used car place almost right next door hahaa, and they will to the appraisal for $100, although that's a lot, it will let me get a temp plate, so CAA will be able to come open the car, enabling me to get the tumbler out of the passenger door and bring it to Toyota to get a key made, so I can unlock the steering and see if anything works on the car, AND to get it towed to my place again at no charge due to having a temp plate! The charge without plate for flatbed tow is $120 + $3 something per KM so getting the appraisal and temp plate is the cheapest way to do these things. The dealership that can to the appraisal was iffy on whether or not it can be done without being able to get into the car to test things, but if they will do it for me then I will have a much easier life. I plan to do these things Tuesday unless something stops me. Such a frustrating day today though, all i accomplished other than this plan work, was removing the back half of the exhaust that was hanging on the ground due to someone cutting out the cat, probably for the platinum hahaa. GOD, this car is pissing me off and I'm the one trying to help it!

So, what's the problem with getting into the car? I find it very hard to believe the dealership doesn't have someone skilled enough to get you in it.

Anyway, congrats on the rescue!

Wow, just read through the thread. Definitely props for saving an otherwise crushed supra! Get it towed to your place and break into it from there (with or without the CAA :p). Seriously, after all this, you should be the rightful owner. Great project car or just a simple parts car / track car / part out if you want (oh, if only is was a burgundy interior that I could steal parts from :p). Good luck with whichever way it takes you!

On a side note, this reminds me of a couple supras at a local "used car dealership" here in Norman, OK. They have two supras on their lot (both pre 89, one turbo maroon, one non-turbo white). I put "used car dealership" in quotes because I have approached them about both (pulling up in my 89 turbo). The were very apprehensive about even talking about selling anything, questions like "what are you doing here?" and "who are you?" came up. The non-turbo they said was sold to their mechanic, and the turbo one they tried to sell to me for $4500 because it had "35,000" miles (stock, horrible body shape and interior, missing IC pipes and half of the engine essential for running). That was about four/five years ago and they are still setting in the same exact place as before along with every other single car in the lot.

Anyways, not trying to high-jack, just happy that pursuit of an equally condemned car can turn out well.

The fastest way to get in the car if you are terrible with a slim jim is take a small sturdy long nail on the driverside floorboard where the front seat support is pop the little nail through the floor and it will push the rear hatch release open.
Crawl through the back hatch of the car to the front.
It takes less then 1 min to do spot weld/reseal the floor board call it a day.

I know it works and I did it before on both my mkii & mkiii now I just keep 2 sets of keys incase i get in to much of a hurry.

^ i never thought of that...

kinda makes me nervous.

Is posting tips for getting into our cars a good idea???

To be fair, that little tip along with the one about other Toyota Keys isn't worth a damn if you had a half decent Alarm system installed, which you should have anyway as You'd have to be insane if you think that a security system designed 16 years ago at the very least is going to keep thieves out on its lonesome...

Wow that's an interresting idea. I'd be worried about poking the hole only to find out that I missed the lever! hahaaa. I can't weld anything so it might start to rust no? Oh and btw nobody worry about thread jacking I enjoy all the little stories as long as you don't start talking about ghost recon or something. Hmm, I'm gona look into this nail trick. I'll pm you Evilempire to keep it out of the public.

a good silcone filler could fill a small nail hole just fine. Or fiberglass.
And thats just a small price to pay to get into your new car.
Also, to make sure you dont miss...get in another supra (your own) and measure how far infront of the seat mounting bolt the lever is.

Meh I guess you're right. I can't afford a good alarm though so the little red blinking light is all i got! :)

BTW, where did you pull that Clarkson quote from?? I've never heard him say that, let alone mention the Supra. I've wanted to seen a Top Gear episode on the supra but...no luck yet. maybe I missed it?

Do you know what gen he might have been talking about?

Get a friend in law enforcement to run the tag for you, or if you know a dispatcher they can do it for ya. Then find a number or addy for the owner, whoever is registered on the tag should be the current owner, a lot of times the state has a recent addy for them on the printout too.

I got that quote from one of his books (either "Clarkson on Cars" or "Born to be Riled", can't remember which). He mentions Supras a few times, but nothing about the actual car, instead he focuses on the types of people who drove them - Drug Dealers and Footballers (soccer players), and judging by the other stuff he mentions in the rest of the article, I reckon he's referring to our fair MK3 :)

LOL! Ten holes later and all you've managed to do it pop the gas door! :biglaugh: That'd be hilarious.

I'll just stick with the tools of the trade: slim jims and lock picks. All professionally acquired I assure you.

I could give a thousand ways to get into a car and a thousand more to prevent it.... let's just start with these: rebuild/replace your locks, install an aftermarket alarm and have someone either weld 1/8" (or thicker) plate of steel beneath the floor pan (under the hatch release) OR remove the cable release and install a solenoid with the release buttons tucked away somewhere like the glove box.

Well my dad has a metal tool that you just stick in between the drivers or passangers windowl, and you just pull and it will unlock the door, it took me about 10 min to find the hook the first time i tried it, but it did work. He bought it at Harbor Freight for less then 10 dlls.
