Why don't you race me with your car?

Im your huckleberry. Come to Chi2k7 this year.

The fact is, you guys are turning this into a poo flinging contest.

Ric, may I suggest that you not insult innovation and experimentation?

Being a lemming or a sheep is fine and dandy, but please don't insult.

As for the Holset line itself, they have proven to have some of the most efficient compressor maps in the world.

Its taken Garrett years to catch up with the introduction of the GT series.

So why does every body go garrett?

I believe its due to the lack of customer support from Holset, and the lack of people willing to experiment.

:nono: tell my why am i going to make 325 rwhp + with under 600 bucks?

I did 310whp on a bone stock 1jzgte with just a $10 home depot boost controller.

Thats lame to do all the work of going single, to make hp you can do on stock twins with just cams.

Wow this thread is turning into a nightmare haha.

hmm, okay lemme start with Ric I suppose. Dude I understand exactly what you're thinking. I'm from tampa and being a professional mechanic in FL for 3 years (at XAT racing) I've met plenty of supra guys. I know you have an SC and all but you just remind me of a lot of mkIV guys from down there. It almost seems like they like to spend more on their car so they can brag about it. They're always like "oh man I wasted countless thousands on a VPC and HKS twin power, triple walbros with greddy t88! Look how big my dick is" when in fact if their dick was all that big they'd be out fucking chicks instead of bragging to other guys about their cars. I've heard your little speech before and I understand it completely. Whereas I'm happier bragging about how cheap my car is and how fast it goes :) Even now with my $300 standalone running my $900 stock engine I'd probably run you down in my $500 car. See? Isn't that cool?
Spending money isn't the only way to make power boy. This is a fact that every technician knows, and every customer is lost on.

This whole holset thing is indeed an experiment. I'm perfectly happy with the 320whp I have now on the stock stuff. I don't need to do this at all. Just like I don't need to be running megasquirt. It's a choice to make my car more interesting for me. As far as performing better I'm not going into this with any expectations. A broader torque curve would be nice but beyond that I don't care. If the turbo is that horrible I'll just sell it. Oh noes I lost a whole $250 :(

As far as ebay parts go. They are the same parts you can buy anywhere only cheaper. ebay is a great place to get a deal. I have an ebay cutch (xtd stage 3) that I've been drifting the shit out of for a year now. No problems at all. My ebay intercooler is awesome. So what if I had to make pipes it gives me something else to be proud of.

Look the people in the world who get things done are the ones who take risks. If my setup turns out great then less adventurous people won't need to go spend a bucket on some gt4000R or whatever. At the end of the day all that matters is being fast. Fast wins races.
//end rant//

So yeah let's try to keep this thread positive. It's actually kind of motivating me to put some other stuff on hold and get this thing on already. I can't wait to post some data good or bad...

Thanks guys,

People have tried it...and it works....why question it? Used holset has got to be better than a "new" XS power turbo or some other cheap crap on ebay!

Holset is a proven company. Just because you haven't heard of it in the supra world doesn't mean it's not a viable option!

There are plenty of turbos out there with odd names...don't believe me? go look at some DSM turbos that are custom made....

I think this is the route I have decided to go. Worst case scenario, it gets the car up and running. Sure DBB would be a nicer thing to have...but maybe if you've been contemplating going single...or your twins are starting to blow smoke, then this is a good option to get things going...maybe down the road you can buy your shiny turbo made of gold, in the mean time, you can use a a big rusty turbo that will probably outlast the greddy/HK$/Turbonetics/ etc...

Thanks guys, really.

If this doesn't work out maybe I'll make an adapter for a ct26? Plenty of those floating around :)

And ya know it's not that I don't have money. I just don't like throwing it away. I'm gonna take all that money I save and buy a bunch of tires and a new driveshaft...

Updates coming soon I promise.

Okay sounds fun :biglaugh:

We don't have 93 octane in WA so how bout letting me use a little booster or something? And dude you can tell everything about spool from the dyno chart.

Man I can't believe you responded with this it's so cool! I thought for sure you were one of those FL douchebags. I guess I was wrong.

Man I'm sorry if I pissed you off with my other post. Yay for civility.

My wastegate spring is at 12psi, because anything more then that and the A340e can't hold it (over 400whp).

Thats giving the holset an advantage, because 12psi on a GT40-88 isn't even near efficiency.

No spray. Just 93 octane pump. If your local dyno has a MAP sensor on it, it can record the boost curve in relation to RPM.
