Im puting a JDM 7MGE in my 86.5 Supra Targa Sport 'Tomarrow' and was wondering if any1 knew what conversion issues I might run into... The engine is from an automatic and Im not sure of the year of car it came out of but I am going to assume its out of a 90 or 91 and maybe even an 89. Using my W58 too. So ANY and all help is needed, maybe just a link to another thread...? I can't find anything on this conversion, probably because its pointless to 99% of peeps, but it's going to rally one day soon and I gotta roll with this motor for many different reasons associated with that :1zhelp:

Flywheel has to be swapped (Duh) The engine's gonna come with EGR block off plates, and if you want the car to be smog legal, you're gonna have to swap an EGR onto it, EGR VSV, a BVSV and a USDM Throttle Body. And if the engine is an 89+, You're going to have to swap motor mount brackets to make them mate up with your 86.5's square mounts, and you're gonna need an 89+ Nonturbo M/T Harness and ECU. And also while the engine is out, change the HG, or at least retorque it.

Hope that helps.

Its all quite simple, look at your old motor now look at the new one, make the new one look exactly like your old one.

when I did mind I ended up swapping the upper intake and throttle body over to deal with the vacuum issues, bypassed the EGR, remember that your coolant lines will be backwards as the JDM motor is RHD, make sure the oil pan is the same, often they'll advertise it as a supra motor, but it actually came out of a cressida. If you miss it you'll have big problems seating the motor in the crossmember :)

btw, "tomarrow" is actually spelled tomorrow, unless you did that on purpose.

hmm... all this is gonna help. Last night we got the engine out, now we need to get the two engines next to eachother and compare. I Will do that tonite and I will take a some Pics of the motor(s) so you Supra Gurus can put the smack down on this project! Thanks Again, the support is good here....

My recommendation would be to compare the oil pans first. Then start taking pictures, of the coolant hose routing, the vacuum routing and wiring. Keep taking as you go deeper. This will help if you end up have to mix and match parts.

Junior's right, if you are planning on keeping it smog legal you'll need to keep the original upper intake manifold, "Y" pipe, throttle body, etc.

The coolant lines don't have to go on backward. I can't recall if the JDM engines have a different hardpipe assembly which wraps around the block, but if it is, just put on the one from the old engine and stick with the stock hose routing.

LMAO, fair point. Brain appears to not be entirely connected today.

I only mentioned it 'cause it's a super common one, my little brother spells it tomarrow to this day.

What about it? Other than the fact that their data is all wrong. The 7M-GE is not a 1.6L 180HP engine.

IT'S ALL WRONG! AHAHAHAHAHAH!:biglaugh:

IT MADE ME LOOK TWICE
I WAS LIKE "what the freak"
let me show this to my supra buddies..
