$40 ebay cheap clear GLASS housing, rip the guts out, mount an FX-replica bi-xenon projector, add HID kit, and 4300k OEM D2S bulb (there's a bajillion to be found), and enjoy.

I thought about that... but tbh I'm not sure that will give the best results and stay legal at the same time (referring to beam pattern of course...) now if there was a way to stuff a hella 90mm bi-xenon assembly in there that'd be cool...

http://www.myhellalights.com/index....ps/90mm-xenon-headlamp-modules/90mm-bi-xenon/
like that... i take it this thing is the whole shebang... creates beam pattern etc etc...

well got alot of time to mule over this one... it's gonna be awhile till I actually conduct said headlight mod... for now I think I'll just upgrade to a silverstar bulb (not hid, just regular ol' halogen, so no freaking out please LoL)

I wonder if anyone has used this 90mm thing from hella before... I'm trying to envision our pop-ups with that single round projector... and it just don't look right in my mind... the best look imho is still the nsx look... two projectors in each housing... and you get the benefit of having the lights not open so high *sigh ideas ideas...

wasnt there just a monster thread on headlights...?

I think so... but none of those threads had actual solutions... that I could see... hence I started this one and speaking of which here's another great site... just gotta figure out how to use their projectors with the popup lights...

Dual HID projectors is actually not the best way to go. The way that HID bulbs work, what wears them out is repeated on / off cycles. Which is why everyone makes bi-xenon projectors, where the beam pattern is controlled with a shield. If you built it the other way, switching from low to high beam all the time would prematurely wear out your bulbs. With the shield, you get the longest possible life from your bulbs.

Ya, they are up there on the $$$ scale, that's for sure. I've heard rumors that Hella makes a waterproof projector - and I'd be happy to pay some extra $$$ for the extra convenience. Mounting the Infinity FX projectors and ensuring that they are protected enough from the weather to use every day in the rain-filled Pacific North West has been a long, painful process - and I'm by no means done yet.

I think most of their modules are fairly well sealed. I know the 90mm halogen modules have vents on them, but unless you submerge them they should stay fine.

You guys are really tempting me to start making these things lol

poodles you could probly make some good bank if you made a drop in for people...those lights he posted at first are $500...the kit from retro is less ($300ish) and then a couple hundred for labor....if i was good at that stuff i would do it in a heartbeat....there have been a ton of threads on this already this year so there is alot of interest....i say make a set and see how quick they go....

Yep... money is the biggest issue. Once I get to the point where I'm going to be undertaking big ticket body mods and I have the money, I'll def give the retro lights a shot... maybe put their bi-xenon fx-r stage 4 kit inside a clear housing... but I want to get the dual look somehow... ha two bi-xenons in each housing... that'd be insane (prob no legal or healthy for the car >_<) LoL Grimjack why so annoyed? =O

I hope this thread helps whoever really wants to do a proper retrofit... the whole reason I started this thread is cuz all the other headlight threads boil down to arguments over whats legal and whats proper... in this thread we have already established what is legal and proper, lets get to solving the issue :D (and you can't find any good links to real HID kits in the other threads...)

LOL, nah, he's done it on his own car and sounds like he hated it. I don't mind a good project if I can find a way to make it profitable :)

QFT. I've been working on this kit for well over a year so far, and I'm still not certain it's going to fit. If I were to charge someone else for the labor alone, I'd be well over $1000 by now. Then add in another $1200 for parts, and at least a couple hundred for tools...

I actually searched - HARD - for someone already making plug in kits before I decided to custom build my own.

I have another headlight project that I've put on hold because I don't have the skills to pull it off. Plus, it requires some work on the installer's part that takes it firmly away from being "bolt on." Projector retrofit I could do quite easily if I find the correct housings.
