i have targa and it was cool for a day or two but now id rather have hard top...supras looks funky with the top off IMHO, and the extra weight sucks...to me performance is more important so if i could choose id go hard.

If I lived closer, I'd wash your mouth out with soap...............:evil2:

I love my targa top. We have warm springs, summers and falls, so I get to ride with it off for most of the year if I want too.

Hardtop, is a better driving car. Undisputable.

I own a hard-top, and every other supra I've driven (besides mine) has had a targa, and I can immediately feel the difference...top on or off. It's amazingly obvious. Way more flex than I would ever have imagined.

Plus, targa's understandably have lots of rattles and squeeks due to their lack of chassis rigidity.

It's all about triangulation.

pppfttt, the reason I got the Supra was because it was targa...

If I want a rigid-ass hardtop I'll drive my dad's Rav4, if I want a sunroof I'll drive my mom's GS300...

I want to have fun, and actually enjoy the drive, I'll take off my targa and shift my own gears, thank you....

HT cars don't provide a fun or enjoyable driving experience?

Well my limp noodle the same size as your rigid noodle, i guess we know why girls like targa's.....:naughty: :biglaugh:

As rigid?...More rigid?...than a hard-top?

And you believe this???:sarcasm:

Well targa cars do have more framework, they are heavier after all. With proper braces i could see it bieng more or at least evenly rigid. its all triangulated same as hardtop only difference is the roof is bolted instead of welded. anyone test this??

I like my targa I get some interesting looks when it off ... Its allot of work to make them rigid and drive well when the top is off but when it done its great...

I see why you might think so, but the targa does not create the same single piece connection from the "a pillar" to the "b pillar". Also, the a pillar, roof line and b pillar are critical points of triangulation. I'm not sure that even the targa brace would do it.

Somebody who fabricates racing chasis or a good structural engineer could shed more light on this, but I don't think it's as simple as it might appear to be, and even less simple to fix.

It's a very interesting subject (to me anyway) as to whether the brace would totally compensate for the loss of structural integrity that is lost with the targa. My gut says probably not.

im going to be filling my frame rails with foam, so i think that will help with some of rigitity of my targa top.

lol, when done right the foam doesnt add too much, plus the change in feel definitely outweighs the weight gain if the time is taken to do it properly. and there's a good solution to more weight - more power :D

I like the Hard Top better, but that's the only one I've been in. I just don't think I'd have a use for the Targa.

100 lbs is a 10th of a second ....the targe is 80 lbs heavier so stock vs. stock i would beat a targa car cause a 10th of a sec is alot in the drag racing world that means 200lbp is 2 10ths and so on....weeight is a major factor when it comes to racing....but the targa is not for racing...its cool and it looks good...like i said before if i had a non turbo it would be a targa but i dont i have a turbo and i like the fact that its a hard top......

Everyone is too anal about their damn Supra. It's still a damn car that is supposed to be driven. How it's driven is up to the driver.

If you enjoy cruising and leisurely driving with the occasional boost, then of course you have a targa top.

And of course if you're a weight saving fanatic, who can always "feel" the rigidity of the chassis, then get a hard top. Those complaining about weight have probably never been to the track.

Sunroof is still for the win. The stance it creates when it's out is just superb.
