hard top vs. targa top

The targa top appeal has worn off for me. I used to want one but not anymore.

If I bought another Supra, it would probably still be an HT.

I don't care about the weight difference. It's still heavy.

Pushbutton control allows you to quickly modulate how much of the outside you want in, which is great on those sunny but somewhat cooler days when full open is nice at 35mph but not at 55mph. Also, it is nice to be able to open or close things up without having to think ahead. Additionally there is no lost trunk space, minimal impact to vehicle weight and rigidity and it's the rarest supra top option.

The biggest drawback is less headroom. I'm 6'-1". My head does not touch but my hair does. If you are taller than this you may want to stay away from a sunroof.

If I had to do it again I would go with a hardtop instead of my Targa. I do care about weight, and 80 pounds is a lot. I would also prefer a stiffer body. Not to mention that I only use the Targa a few times a year since it's such a pain to take it on and off.

But then again, cruising around with the targa off on a perfect evening is an experience that can't be put into words.

I come from a land down under
HT +1000!

I bought my Targa because it was 5K under market value at the time (kid got in trouble during an OS trip and his dad sold it to bail him out)

I've hed the top off a grand total of ONCE and hated it..

Since then I've RTV'd it on so it doesn't leak/squeak and if/when I get around to doing some body work on my fat whale I'll source a HT turret and weld it to the Targa chassis.

The Targa cars have a serious amount of extra panels inside the Sills and Pillars so welding a roof to one "should" give a nice stiff structure.

I'm with IJ, the only reason I take the targa off now is if I'm with a girl, and she begs me too. I hate driving the car with it off, it feels completely different. I don't feel as confident in the car as I do when it's on. So I don't really like driving that fast with it off, that kinda kills it for me.

i like the targa, thats one of the features that drew me towards the car. i have had 3 targa top cars now and have never even wanted to buy a hardtop. but thats my preference.

I felt that way too with all the flex. So I bought one of those Weezle targa bars and it feels nice and solid again.

I've got a hardtop. I also had a Targa supra but the car never ran. I can't compare the two but I am very happy with my hardtop. It's not like you have much choice, most of the cars are Targa (I think 86 might be HT plus the random other ones).

I never liked convertibles or wanna-be targa top type cars. The targa seems to be the worst though, you can just hit a button and the top goes away. You gotta park, use some weird tool then store it in the back.

ive driven both hard top and a targa. nothing compares to the handling of the hardtop. the targa was just to sloppy. whan taking mountain hills the targa just flexs to much. but the targas look cool also but for daily id take the targa and for racing the hardtop wins it.

+1

I like Supras any which way you slice them, but I really do like the Targa. Mine stays off if the weather is even close to nice.

The WeezlWings are great. I don't know if it's a placebo effect thing, but the car feels stiffer with the WeezlWing than even with the top on :dunno:

The weight doesn't really bug me - my car feels solid and has plenty of oomph. I don't autoX in this car anyway.

I don't think I could really own a targa car. The only reason I'd have one is to be able to remove the top(obviously). But the reduced stiffness and sloppyness make it sound so unappealing to drive that way. All the targa bars and stiffiners are ugly to me too, so I'd have to live with it or not have the top off.

Oh well. I'm happy with my non-targa car and that's all I really care about.

What is the weight difference between the two and where is it listed?

I think I have to go with targa, but I would own a hard top in a minute. Its a supra!
