Nah not really they just don't know any better and now and again you find one that actually listens and learns ;)

Too many bullshit car build shows on TV have brainwashed them into idiocy.

Just playin again, IJ.

Thanks! No pics of the car for a while, it's too beat up overall right now. I'm embarrassed. Yeah, gotta do the valves, but I have herniated discs, so I'm not looking forward to leaning over the engine.

Yeah I must say I love the detailing you put into your rebuild. I'm kind of rushing just to get my motor swap in. But I'm thinking about saving up some money and rebuilding the numbers matching block back up later, although it's blown right now and has a couple thrown rods.

Can empathise with this, 2 level spinal fusion here :(

I've been lucky. No surgery, just injections. Haven't had one in about two years though. Exercise and good posture are what's keeping me going now, plus a lot of Aleve. (naproxen sodium, if you're not familiar with the brand name).

Just a little update, folks. Just under 1500 miles since rebuild, and the engine's running flawlessly. Took a long ride last Saturday, about 175 miles round trip, with a 2 1/2 hour stop in the middle. She ran great.

The only issue I'm having now is my drive shaft support bearing seems to be shot, as I get a shudder from accelerating from a dead stop, or slow speed. After about 90, I'm getting a distinct shake, more severe than just tire balance issues.

Still looking for work, so I can afford to fix all the other issues.

The rear section of the shaft is actually a shaft in a tube that's bonded together, over the years the bond fails and the inner rotates inside the outer and puts the #3 Uni out of line with #1 and #2 and this causes the symptoms you describe not the Centre bearing.

I did not know that. Thanks. Is there any way to fix it beyond replacement?

I always have the rear section made into a single piece.

stock the shaft is actually a 3 piece, my way makes it into a proper 2 piece.

It's a very easy inspection just jack the car up and sight along the shaft from Uni to Uni if it's slipped the rear one will be rotated out of line from the front 2.

My 160,000 KM GE had this issue and I chased it for a year before finally figuring it out.

How labor intensive is it to do the conversion?
